Summary/Review:
When an older witch dies, Magrat Garlick inherits her magic wand which also makes her a fairy godmother. Magrat journeys with Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg to Genua to meet Emberella, for whom she will be fairy godmother, and try to prevent a forced marriage to the Duc. There travels include many misadventures and play as a spoof on Anglophone travelers stumbling through Europe. The novel also plays on fairy tales, including the Frog Prince, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Sleeping Beauty. Plus, there are zombies, vampires, voodoo witches, and Nanny Ogg’s cat Greebo who humorously takes human form for part of the story. Most of all, it is a story where Granny Weatherwax meets her biggest challenge – her long lost sister. It’s another delightful entry in the Discworld oeuvre.
