The threat of collisions with #satellites in increasingly congested #LEO #space may require moving certain scientific facilities out of the way. "The #Fermi Earth orbit at a 500 x 512 km altitude is subject to collision warnings due to new constellations deployed near Fermi: currently over 7,000 satellites and growing. This paper presents analysis concerning changing Fermi's orbit and associated operational flight dynamics considerations."

arXiv.orgDesigning a Potential NASA Fermi Orbit ChangeThe Fermi Gamma ray Space Telescope, launched in 2008, has over 16 years of operations providing gamma ray (8 keV to 300 Gev) spectra science observations of cosmic phenomena. It continues to provide invaluable research for the astrophysics community which include the study of pulsars, cosmic rays, gamma ray bursts, and coordination with gravity wave observations for neutron star mergers. The Fermi Earth orbit at a 500 x 512 km altitude is subject to collision warnings due to new constellations deployed near Fermi: currently over 7,000 satellites and growing. This paper presents analysis concerning changing Fermi's orbit and associated operational flight dynamics considerations. The cadence of burns and expected fuel use for a proposed orbit raise scenario is examined, ensuring that Fermi should have sufficient fuel for end of life operations. In addition, a Monte Carlo design is presented to capture single maneuver model uncertainty.

Fermi's Paradox

The SETInstitute, whose business is looking for extraterrestrial intelligence, summarise what they cheerfully refer to as the Fermi Paradox as "if they are out there, why don't we see them" and offer ideas seti.org/fermi-paradox-0

Some other organisations or web commentators seem to have decided that Fermi had something completely different in mind, or have a clear, different and unhelpful idea of what is a paradox, and go off into weirdness.

SETI InstituteThe Fermi ParadoxIs there some evidence suggesting that humans are the Galaxy’s only intelligent species? Enrico Fermi thought so – and he was a pretty smart guy. Could he be right?

New profile picture ✨

The Pulsars group of the Observational Relativity and Cosmology department conducts computing-intense searches for pulsars – rapidly rotating neutron stars. The researchers study the discoveries using gamma rays and radio waves. They use efficient data analysis methods and powerful computing resources to detect pulsars that have been previously out of reach.

Neues Profilbild ✨

@lutz_ Generell könnte ich mir, v.a. in anderen Klassenstufen, #Fermi-Aufgaben gut vorstellen.
