“Monsoon 7”

Storm-chasing photographer Mike Olbinski (previously) returns with another stunning timelapse of summer thunderstorms in the western U.S. I never tire of watching the turbulent convection, microbursts, billowing haboobs, and undulating clouds Olbinski captures. His work is always a reminder of the incredible power and energy contained in our atmosphere and unleashed in cycles of warming and cooling, evaporation and condensation. (Video and image credit: M. Olbinski)

Friday 6 June - View across the Hudson River from Manhattan (NYC) mid-day.
A bit whiter than yesterday.

The river is not very wide, but the other side is in 'haze'. You can see even in the trees across the water, green washed out. Air quality: edge of OK.

Yes, still "unusual weather"... Smoke from the north, haboob from the Saraha (Africa), and everything else between. Well, wherever you are, stay safe, breathe carefully, and...Happy Weekend!

Welp, walked out of the coffee shop into a full-on #haboob. The entire sky is a dirty brown color, and sometimes the air smells like dirt. Perhaps this was not the best day to walk to the local watering hole and meeting place.

The sky isn't the color of a TV tuned to a dead channel, but rather the desert sands of West Texas.

CDPR wasn't too far off, were they? Cyberpunk and ecological dystopia, indeed.

While the weather is quiet here, there is a massive moving westward across southern New Mexico and northern Mexico. There have been reports of visibility less than one-quarter of a mile along the leading edge of this haboob. Follow @NWSElPaso for more information.
