Red-Shouldered Hawk

Last week I went to a local park and as I parked my vehicle I heard a hawk call repeatedly in the woods nearby. As luck would have it there was a trail going in that direction. I was hopeful for a shot of the hawk but knew that realistically it would probably see me and take off immediately. I guess, just like the green heron, these birds are used to seeing humans and aren’t easily startled by them. This one flew down from a treetop, towards me, and perched on a fallen tree maybe 30-40 feet away. I really couldn’t believe it but did not hesitate to put the shutter to work lol. The lighting was not ideal however it was a great experience. And I learned that they can rotate their heads around like owls do.
