Ran the Prolog and Trnovo sections today. Slightly bigger water, faster current. Time to use the moves we’ve been practicing.

On the Trnovo section (called “Friedhof” in German, graveyard) I was somewhat tense. I’ve run this bit many times, but it’s mostly been stressful.

I want to get to where I’m able to paddle down there all relaxed at 30-40 cbm/s.

Another day of my #whitewater #kayaking course done. Lots of technical practice on the water, focusing on moving into and out of eddies.

The section we ran had one spot with significant difficulty: a cataract of maybe 300 meters, where we had to hit the right line pretty continuously.

We all made it! Even though my boat briefly went vertical… 😬

The clear, turquoise water of a mountain stream is running through a canyon of light gray rocks. There are various rocks strewn in the middle of the stream. Two people are sitting on a rock in the center of the picture. The scale they provide makes it clear that the rocks in the water are fairly large, and passing between them in a kayak will be tricky.

First time kayaking in 2025.
Weird how the boat gets heavier every year!
A few Canada Goose families with little goslings at the beach made carrying the boat down to the water extra hard.

The day turned out a little differently, as #kayaking plans usually do. We did an easier run - a wonderful way to warm up for the bigger challenges ahead.

Great group, and a beautiful stretch of river.
