The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments this morning in Mahmoud v. Taylor, a case that pits two foundational principles of public education against each other: the authority of local school boards to set a unified curriculum, and the rights of religious parents to exempt their children from materials they find objectionable.

Sadly, in the “Lucky Country”, considering the Indigenous people experiencing poverty, disabled people, etc., isn’t regarded as ethical.

This is another example of the continued institutionalised, systemic devaluation of marginalised lives in policy design, here and around the world, by the colonisers.

If you think this will never happen to you, it can happen faster than you think. Very few are immune.

She was Elisa Rae Shoup, the first person ever in the US to get officially recognized as non-binary. They briefly detransitioned from 2019-2022 and were exploited (their own word) by far right transphobes to attack transgender health care. They retransitioned after that. Now they're dead, driven to suicide by the country that hated and reviled them for being who they were.

Remember the veteran found hanged by suicide at a VA hospital? How they wouldn't give a name? How the news reports used "he/him" pronouns? They've been identified finally, and their suicide note has been published. It's a scorching condemnation of America and it's hatred for trans people.

@orionkidder my next one has a gay primary (writer is bi/demi/pan) and there is tragedy but not because of his relationships. Some complicated feelings ... He met his boyfriend while in jail...

But it's a detective/mystery jam and it's also dealing with POC (writer is white). And there is also a second MC (co-MCs) who is a single mom.

All these are important to the chars more than the storyline in my head, but really informs who they are... It's just not all they are
