Anything that threatens monetization of fossil hydrocarbons is itself now under acute threat, in the US geophysical research establishment. This is a very cheaply purchased outcome of the last presidential election (shockingly cheap; no wonder Trump can bankrupt casinos-- he's incompetent even at corruption).

It would be good to have a system-wide instrument for checking whether such research is still possible (see acknowledgements).

Weather has been strange in South Florida this year, all two weeks of it. Unusually cool and wet for our dry season, but not too unusual considering it is an El Niño year.

But after the second threat of flooding in one of our more affluent neighborhoods, it was interesting to hear a few soccer dads wonder if the changes in weather were simply caused by the media overhyping things. After all, the water only came up to their lawns during this routine cold front and did not even enter their garages or homes.
