I put together a survey for an #oss app I'm working on for #collectiveaction; I'd appreciate anyone willing to take the time to fill it out. It does verify your email to limit responses, but emails are not collected - your responses will be anonymous. Please feel free to share with anyone on any platform. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI

Google DocsPainted Dogs - Democracy in the Digital AgeWe're developing an app to help communities organize collective action and participate in digital democracy. Please help us understand which features matter most to you (2-3 minutes).

Some more positive news in the #oss world are coming about securing the supply chain - the Google OSS security team has announced the "OSS Rebuild" effort. On paper it sounds great, and I appreciate that they came up with a process that won't burden maintainers!

Oh FFS.

"This decision undermines software freedom principles that have defined Android's open ecosystem since its inception. Privacy-focused users who specifically avoid Google services now face forced participation in Google's verification infrastructure."

How on earth can @EUCommission possibly justify this in any way?

The inherent value of FOSS is not only getting it for "free" and the "freedom" of doing whatever you want with it.

It's also maintaining it for "free".

If you cannot maintain it, then offer your ideas so it can be enhanced or fixed with the least amount of hindrances for the maintainers to understand.

If you can't do both, shut the fuck up.

This will just keep happening, more and more, at all level of #oss. It will be bad. Worse than those cookie banners and GDPR.

And on top of that, as well explained by Dave Russo from Red Hat, there are still a lot of challenges ahead:
