1970's. The name of the local golf tournament for decades was The GGO (Greater Greensboro Open) and was typically played at Sedgefield CC.

I've lost track of the name now. Is it a hotel chain, automaker, bank? I can't keep up.

The GGO drew big crowds and was broadcast nationally on CBS. Big thing!

One year I watched Gerald Ford of POTUS fame hook a drive on pro-am day and pop a spectator in the head on a fairway. The spectator went down like a bag of dirt.

Fun times! 🏌️⛳

While waiting for the dentist, I enjoyed some pro golfer soft-core in this Golf Digest. Joaquín Niemann.

It amazes how athletic modern golfers look. When I was teenager following the PGA tour when it came to town in the 70's, many of the pros were chain-smoking hard-drinking physical wrecks hacking their way through the tournament.

There were some athletic ones, but not so many as these days.

Maybe I'm just noticing more.
