Hubby, who used to teach American history, reminded me of the #HartfordConvention from 1814-15. #Maine, #Massachusetts, #Vermont, #Connecticut, #NewHampshire and #RhodeIsland had considered leaving the union and forming their own "independent republic" in opposition to "political problems arising from the federal government's increasing power. "

Excerpt:
"Some delegates may have been in favor of New England's #secession from the United States and forming an #independent republic, though no solution was adopted at the convention. Historian Samuel Eliot Morison rejected the notion that the Hartford convention was an attempt to take New England out of the Union and give treasonous aid and comfort to Britain. Morison wrote: 'Democratic politicians, seeking a foil to their own mismanagement of the war and to discredit the still formidable Federalist party, caressed and fed this infant myth until it became so tough and lusty as to defy both solemn denials and documentary proof.' During the march yesterday, I witnessed a car wanting to use the street of the route. A clergy person (with yellow “clergy” hat and hi-viz vest) put their body against the nose of the car and got on their phone calling for help. They held the car off from interrupting the march (best case) or driving into protesters (worst case). Such bravery, de-escalation skill, and care from that clergy person.

So many volunteers made the protest possible, nonviolent, effective.

#RFKjr, the brain-damaged psychopath, has recommended vitamin A for #measles.

The #CDC has so far confirmed 483 measles cases this year in at least 19 states: #Alaska, #California, #Florida, #Georgia #Kansas, #Kentucky, #Maryland, #Michigan, #Minnesota, #NewJersey, #NewMexico, #NewYork, #Ohio, #Pennsylvania, #RhodeIsland, #Tennesee, #Texas, #Vermont, and #Washington. (MN and TN are most recent.)

Public Health Ontario said Thursday there have been 572 measles cases since the outbreak began in October, 453 of them confirmed and 119 probable. Of the 42 people requiring hospitalization, two have required intensive care, and 36 have been children — most of them unvaccinated.

21 cases are reported in Alberta.

Joe Paolino Has Got to Go

Joseph Paolino Jr. has embarrassed and disgraced the #RhodeIsland #DemocraticParty and should immediately resign from his position as National Committeeman. On Saturday March 22nd, labor unions from across the state put on a powerful, large-scale demonstration next to the Providence #Tesla outlet in protest of the Musk-led MAGA government’s systematic and authoritarian assault on our general welfare and basic democratic rights.

MobilizeJoe Paolino Has Got to Go · MobilizeJoseph Paolino Jr. has embarrassed and disgraced the Rhode Island Democratic Party and should immediately resign from his position as National Committeeman. On Saturday March 22nd, labor unions from across the state put on a powerful, large-scale demonstration next to the Providence Tesla outlet in protest of the Musk-led MAGA government’s systematic and authoritarian assault on our general welfare and basic democratic rights. In response, Paolino told the Providence Journal, “I'm not a fan of anybody that protests anything…I don't think that's the way you get change. That's the way you get publicity." This is an outrageous statement from Paolino, who is the landlord of the Tesla outlet and so, in essence, benefits from the rent paid by a person who is destroying this country. His statement is an insult to the legacy of civil rights, feminist, environmental, LGBTQ, anti-war and labor protests that have won everything that’s good in this country. It’s certainly not the leadership we need today in the face of the grave dangers posed by a second Trump Administration. What’s more, it’s wrong to continue with a local real estate mogul representing Rhode Islanders at the DNC. It’s clearer than ever that the future of our democracy is a struggle of the working class against the billionaire class. It’s time for Paolino to go. Sign our petition to let him know he needs to resign as DNC Chair immediately.
