So the Montreal LGBTQ+ inner meta at present is that Fierté Montréal was called out for bullshit and poor practices by multiple queer groups WITH receipts.

Fierté then presents a poor reply and "inviting the collaborators to speak with them" (despite the groups already having spoken with FM).

As we move towards another summer and festival season, Blush, DISCONO, ElleLui and Sweet Like Honey have decided to collectively denounce Fierté Montréal and their predatory behaviours towards the Lesbian, Queer & Trans communities and community organizations in the city. Over the course of the past several years, each of our organizations have had negative experiences collaborating with Fierté Montréal. We are sharing this message in order to raise awareness within Montréal’s Queer communities in hopes that other organizations and individuals can avoid having similar experiences. We hope you will take the time to read through and join us in promoting community-based Queer organizations instead! In solidarity, The teams behind Blush, Discono, ElleLui and Sweet Like Honey WHY YOU WON'T CATCH US WORKING WITH FIERTE MONTREAL (AGAINT) ELLE LUI BLUSH DISCONO SWEETLIKEHONEY
Across our respective collaborations with Fierté Montréal, our organizations have consistently experienced problematic and exploitative behaviours, including: * Lack of financial transparency in contracts, and underpayment or non-payment for labour and creative work; * Ignoring or downplaying serious concerns from artists and organizers, including concerns about individuals employed by Fierté Montréal, exposing individuals to harmful situations; * Breach of agreements and failure to deliver on responsibilities, including failing to pay agreed-upon and/or pre-approved costs such as hotel rooms, flights and artist fees; * Unilateral decision making around critical event logistics that have jeopardized event execution and created financial strain for artists and small organizers who, unlike Fierté Montréal, do not have a $7 million budget.
Beyond our individual experiences, we believe that Fierté Montréal continues to have a negative impact on the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Montreal, by: * Undermining fair pay by normalizing unpaid or underpaid labour, making it harder for marginalized artists to sustain careers; * Reinforcing systemic inequalities by using their platform to extract labour from the community; * Continuously prioritizing corporate interests over those of the communities Fierté Montréal supposedly aims to serve, especially in regards to their partnership with SPVM and their silence in the face of the genocide in Palestine; * Using practices that disproportionately harm marginalized artists, especially Trans, BIPOC, Disabled, and working-class artists; * Using those ugly Al graphics.
Our hope is that sharing our experiences to strengthen the 2SLGBTQIA+ community within Montreal. Here’s what you can do: * Continue to support ethical and independent organizations throughout the year; * Tag an organization whose work you love in the comments * If you've had a negative experience working with Fierté, we encourage you to speak up! Thank you to the other organizations who have shared their experiences with Fierté Montréal, including Coalition des Groupes Jeunesse LGBTQ+, Jeunesse Lambda, Helem, AlterHéros, Centre de Solidarité Lesbienne, Celeste from Juritrans and Vicky from Studio ZX.
