But all got better later that day when I met Sri Vidyasagara Teertha, the current pontiff of Krishnapura Matha. Scholar extraordinaire but also plainspoken, authentic, and genuinely warm. The opportunity to discuss with him higher education and such is itself a blessing.
The sound in this video is in Kannada, but I vouch for every bit of the description there about the Swamiji.
Chopping jackfruit, Udupi Krishna Matha style.
Also, how I know tomorrow's "chauki" meal at the matha will include jackfruit "palya".
(video Part 2 )
Sunday morning at Udupi Krishnapura Matha: Wonderful early morning "dwaadashee" service followed by delicious "paarane" to break 30+ hour fast, and then kind words and blessings by the Swamiji. Also, humbled after meeting some accomplished people in the crowd.
"dwaadasha": dwa/dwi + dasha (2 + 10) is 12 in #Sanskrit. dwaadashee is the 12th day of the fortnight.
"aekaadashee" (aeka + dasha, 1 + 10), the 11th day, is fasting day. Early morning "paarane" on dwaadashee breaks the fast. In most mathas, paarane is complete by 8am.
Friday morning views in Udupi

2-4: Geetha Mandira
Fortunate to be in Udupi, occupying the same areas as some of the best scholars in logic, philosophy, language, literature, scriptures, and such. Just today, I sat in on a hour-long lecture by a "shataavadhani" (someone who can do 100 concurrent tasks) and had 30-minute one-one with the Swamiji of one of the original eight Udupi mathas (~monasteries).
This on top of interacting with the two paryaaya Swamijis (those now responsible for the Krishna temple) and getting a closeup viewing of Krishna. Not to mention eating heavenly food.
I mean, I'd feel blessed to experience any one of those for a few minutes of my entire life, but I'm experiencing it all day, every day. It all feels like a dream, one I fear I'll wake from and realize none of this is real.
Needles to say, heavy impostor syndrome.
Picture: Today's (Tuesday) "alankaara" (makeup) of Krishna. Not my picture but permitted to share.
During "rathotsawa" of #Udupi Krishna, the streets and buildings along the ratha's route are decorated with colorful lights. And a lot of fireworks explode.
"rathotsawa" (ratha+ utsawa) for #Udupi Krishna. During "saptotsawa" (7-day festivities leading up to samkraamti), rathotsawa immediately follows "teppotsawa" (boat ride, see post ~2days ago).
