NB: The title of the plaque was the title of the conference itself at the time. The term transgender wasn't broadly used back then, but it's certainly the term the trans community have adopted & the one that we should be using now....

I received an email last wk from a senior colleague inviting me to a seminar regarding teaching. It fell outside of my kiddo's nursery hrs so I replied explaining why I couldn't come. Colleague responded that she saw no reason why that should be barrier & actively encouraged me to come & bring my kiddo. I can't emphasise enough how immensely supportive & wonderful this was. I was so nervous going to the seminar, but everyone I've spoken to since then who was in attendance has told me that they didn't mind and it didn't impact on them negatively. THIS is what inclusive teaching & a supportive working environment looks like. THIS is what parent students NEED if having kids isn't going to be a barrier to education & career progression. Someone just poked their head into our office asking where Student Support is. I've sent them to the Ziff, but if it's not there anymore then I have no idea. That building is a landmark. I have just spent an hour talking to “Falco” the AI bird that we now have to submit our IT requests through and I think I’ve lost the will to live. It wasn’t even that important but it became a point of principle that I had to go through with it and conquer Falco! #universityofleeds
