#solar and #battery installation at a relatives house did well for #resilience - a cable break cut off the #UKPN grid feed for around an hour - whole house remained with #power from the #renewable #energy sources, the battery reserve was barely touched due to good sunlight (the people in the house didn't even need to switch off high consumption equipment, although I had suggested this should the power cut have lasted any longer (the grid supply returned around an hour later) #electricity

I honestly don't know what to think about the plan to go ahead with Sizewell C.

On the one hand, we badly need reliable sources of low-carbon energy.

On the other hand, it will take many years before it's ready and cost squillions.

Would we do better spending that money on solar and wind farms with battery storage?

I don't know the answer to that. I'd be interested to see their calculations.

“Pringle Switch”

I think these devices go up to around 6000 amps at 600V AC. I don’t think they are as common anymore in new construction with disadvantages compared to low-voltage high-current breakers like the Eaton Magnum breakers.

It’s not shown here but overcurrent and short protection is provided by fuses. Also, arc chutes aren’t shown here. I think some switches have arc chutes as well as a “flicker” blade that makes first, and breaks last, to handle any arcing. #ElectricalEngineer #electricity

#US #solar just had a record-breaking #Q1 but the GOP bill could wreck it
According to the new US Solar Market Insight report from SEIA and Wood Mackenzie, the industry installed 10.8GW of new #electricity-generating solar in Q1 2025, with solar and storage making up a whopping 82% of all new capacity added to the grid.
New #tariffs and “#BigBeautifulBill” passed by the House that would gut clean energy tax incentives are injecting serious uncertainty into the market.
