@cobordism @hyc @voxel no, #ProfOfStake does concentrate wealth by virtue of having a minimum cap to allow for participation.

  • In case of #Ethereum that #PoS cap was (please feel free to correct me) at 10 ETH, so deep in tue 6-figure (€) area...

With #ProofOfWork there is at least no minimum #hashrate to participate and participating in a #pool dies not necessitate to trust someone with funds.

  • OFC I don't deny that #PoW (like #PoS) requires money to participate (as in neither hardware nor electricity nor bandwith being free). But I'm shure we can agree that getting that is way cheaper than the budget that can buy a house (or sometimes two) in rural Germany.

That being said Monero was explicitly designed to not be #ASIC-able in a cost-efficient manner and be #GPU-unfriendly, so it's more #decentralized and doesn't cause harm by demanding custom hardware that can't be repurposed that causes 100% avoidable #eWaste! - IOW: I's the *'least worst'* option given it's PoW doesn't incentive or reward capital holders (beyond the ability to host and have power to mine)…

nfo‼️Ein #Blackout in Deutschland, wie in #Spanien, hätte kaum Auswirkungen auf #Bitcoin, da hier nur wenig Mining betrieben wird. Anders in den USA, Kasachstan oder China: Dort ist die Mining-Industrie stark, weshalb Stromausfälle zuerst die #Hashrate – die Rechenleistung des Netzwerks – beeinträchtigen würden. Da Deutschland kein wichtiges Mining-Zentrum ist, würde ein lokaler Stromausfall die globale Hashrate kaum beeinflussen.
