The audio was utterly gripping to me. I think WWII is a common setting in historical fiction but this book focusing on the Olympics and the lead up was refreshing.

The ending was kind of weird. I can’t say much without spoilers but it just kinda lingered

Another book edge painting foray! This one was a lot of fun, but I did learn that it is possible for the gouache to be too thick. Some of it flaked off when I went to go break part the pages and trying to touch it up was NOT fun

This author is an insta-buy-and-read for me. Holton must love gag anime because that’s how this book reads; I’m just so smitten with all her works!

I absolutely adored this story, and the travels of Beth and Devon were so precious. It was so pure and yet purely Victorian. But now I wonder if Gabriel survived his cousin’s antics!

Meticulous and ridiculous and hilarious, just please: READ THIS BOOK.

This was a super twisty thriller. The formatting counting down to the FMC birthday increased my anxiety SO MUCH. Every time something bad happened, I kept wondering how things could get worse and they did

The book had a classic Sarah Pinborough twist (if you have read Behind Her Eyes or seen the Netflix show then you know what I’m talking about)
SPEAKING OF
The epilogue tied this book to that book and I am HERE for it!
Off to go see if there’s other books that feature them!

SUPER brutal cat and mouse thriller involving a serial killer and a medical examiner. I loved the reveal at about 70%. I appreciated the Hannibal references bc this book made me think of Silence of the Lambs

The book was pretty short, (on audio it was only about six hours) so I finished in a day.
PSA- this ends on a cliffhanger!

DNF at 20%. Wallis seems so hungry and grasping and I don’t feel sympathetic to her. I’m actually feeling bad for her poor husband Ernest who seems like he is trying to do everything to keep her happy. I kinda don’t want to read about the inevitable cheating. I might come back to this later.

MAJOR WWZ vibes, except more traumatic bc it’s a 2025 pandemic and the story is told in first person POV as the pandemic progresses. The wide range of human experience from incel conspiracy theorist, to grieving widow and mother, to the scientists trying to find a cure were done very well. The exploration of grief was a big theme as there were some truly heartbreaking parts. There were some happy parts too and I felt finding that balance was important. I also loved the geopolitical commentary/what ifs. I highly recommend the audio as it had a full cast!

This thriller was BONKERS. Unreliable narrator at its finest. I enjoyed the bits of the finished documentary interspersed in the story as the book progressed. I can’t really say much else bc of spoilers but I binged this in a day!

This had Lord of the Flies x the hysteria of Pont-Saint-Esprit vibes with a touch of sinister village elders of Gathering Blue. The plot had some nice surprises in store, and I enjoyed the social commentary. The ending, although hopeful, kinda petered out for me. I was hoping for more definitive change but overall, a solid read.

Okay so, this was going to be a five star read for me. It asks important questions about power dynamics and consent and choices. But.

There’s a plot point that I can’t get over. I won’t get into it here for the sake of spoilers. I know the book was trying to make a point about consent but I can’t get over it and so I personally would not recommend.

I really loved that at its heart, this was a story of power through knowledge. The chapter headers quoting common children’s rhymes and folk tales passed on as secret knowledge was amazing. It’s also about sisters. Not just blood (although the three FMC are blood related sisters) but those we find common ground with and add to our circle. Also, the audio narration was great, it really brought to life the beautifully written descriptions.

Loved the Hatshepsut inspiration for the archaeological mystery. The story had a lot going on with a personal tragedy/mystery, heist, curse, and girl bossing. By the end, everything came together with a nice neat bow on top. The book also talked about provenance and although it didn’t make a stand one way or another, it’s an interesting debate.

Viking-esque fantasy with ACOTAR vibes. The magic system was interesting and I liked the geography of the world.
It’s dark at times, so check the CW but the book has the enemies to lovers, sunshine x grump, fated mates bond tropes.

The plot advanced nicely with some threats and some twists, all sprinkled with

. The couple was a little insta love, and the epilogue has some interesting implications for the timing of the next two books. I can’t wait for Zeus and Hera next!

“Let them fear me.”

A great historical fiction! The author did a great job bringing to life the historical tidbits. There were some sad parts, but the story, while primarily about pirates, touched race inequality, treatment of Native Americans, and the aftermath of the Salem Witch trials. The author’s note was amazing.
