A worm’s-eye view inside the Oculus station in NYC. The massive steel ribs of the vaulted interior rise up in a striped pattern of shadows and light, converging, at the apex, on a long strip of gridded glass panels. Through this skylight, we can see part of the tower at One World Trade Center, sunlit on one side, under a blue sky. The skylight runs vertically down the image, slightly off-center and to the right, wider at the top and tapering as it recedes.

Apparently the skylight is retractable: it opens up completely once a year on September 11 to allow more sunlight onto the floor, in a “Way of Light” to commemorate the 9/11 attacks. The building is oriented so that the strip of light can run right down the center of the concourse that day. I haven’t been able to see this personally but hope I can photograph it someday. May these memorials be reminders of our vulnerability that call us to compassion, rather than projections of our “strength” that call us to cruelty.

So, how do I like the Fuji X Half so far? It’s interesting. A lot of fun to use. I love how every dial and lever has a nice clicky feel. And the pictures are solid. The camera tends to struggle a little in situations with a lot of variety in light intensity, but it also does a lot of good too

This just didn't work as a regular photo, but looks nice in black and white.

The Street
I have to say I’m really liking the Fuji X Half I picked up a few days ago. It’s just so small and easy to carry around. If it has any drawbacks it would have to be the small screen- it’s sometimes a bit hard to frame shots, and the same is true for the VF. But I’m getting used to it. I just love the colors and detail, though.
