#US #Scientists Warn That Trump’s Cuts Will Set Off a Brain Drain
As the #UnitedStates cuts budgets and restricts immigration, #China and #Europe are offering researchers money and stability.
Applications from China and Europe for graduate student or #postdoctoral positions in US dropped sharply or dried up entirely since President Trump took office. The number of #postdocs and #graduatestudents in USA applying for jobs abroad has spiked.

The cold, hard facts are that #postdocs are the main drivers of scientific publications everywhere. If you want to make a society great, you have to protect the main drivers of innovation. It is absolutely short-sighted to cut funding in hopes of cutting costs. There are other areas of tax-payer monies to prioritize for cost-cutting. Research has a massive multiplier effect that is felt for many generations.
