Jukebox Friday Night's theme for 9 May 2025 is "My Land": songs or music about or for our countries or home lands or heritage.
Here's some others:
Pretty Things, "Singapore Silk Torpedo" (1974)
"Back in 1954, on leave in old Singapore
I was soaking in gin, when Miss Foxy walked in …"
The mid-1960's (you know, nearly 60 years ago) is where the Brain DJ has settled this morning, carefully wiping the dust from B-sides:
Pretty Things, "£. s. d." (mono B-side of 1966's "Come See Me")
#nowplaying Pretty Things - Silk Torpedo (1974). This was their second rock opera following S.F. Sorrow. #onmyturntable #myrecordcollection #prettythings
Sebastian Zappel: Fürther Talent kämpft am Freitag live im Halbfinale von The Voice – so bereitet er sich darauf vor / Interview mit dem Sänger und seiner Schwester
"When I got to our meeting place,
I stared into empty space …"
That's the basic broken promise, for Jukebox Friday Night's theme of Promises.
Pretty Things, "Rain" (1970)
The band that were effectively (but not actually) banned from NZ in 1965 until their return in 2012.
Triggered by yesterday's playlist, the Brain DJ is humming a ballad from the early seventies, which is a soft spot –
Pretty Things, "Over the Moon" (1972)
Sung by Wally Waller, who was leaving the band, being replaced on bass by Stuart Brooks.
The Brain DJ has been back to sixties, dug around a bit to come up with this morning's little ditty –
Pretty Things, "Baron Saturday" (1968)
" 'Neath a sky of milk, you're drinking silk
You've lost the runcible spoon …"
Yes, it is at that level of insanity.

Upside to hiding at my sister's shop yesterday was being surrounded by glimmers - bright colours, shiny things, pretty flowers (and loving people, too!)
And I still got to see a few of the steam engines, too, when they paraded past the shop. Toot Toot!
Beach later today, so hopefully more glimmers soon!
Last night's aural entertainment was Terry Riley's "Descending Moonshine Dervishes" (1975) (1), so the Brain DJ is fighting back this morning with –
Pretty Things, "Singapore Silk Torpedo" (1974, live OGWT 1974)

Transcendence is Jukebox Friday Night's theme, but we've missed the chance to make the theme "Trancendance". Oh well.
Continuing with word play, I offer a track by a band that was nearly banned from NZ after their 1965 tour.
Pretty Things, "Parachute" (1970)
#JukeboxFridayNight #Transcendence #PrettyThings
Stay until the end of the track: that's when it transcends this earthly plane. Headphones recommended.
