"These Copernicus #Sentinel2 images, acquired on 22 June and 2 July 2025, show the impact of the heatwave on soil moisture in the agricultural landscape surrounding Châlons-en-Champagne in northern France.
The Normalised Difference Moisture Index (NDMI) reveals a stark contrast: blue areas, indicating wetter soils, shrink noticeably, while yellow and red tones, signs of dry or stressed land, expand rapidly over the ten-day period."

At #LPS25 the #Sentinel2 team just said that they will support nighttime observations in Sentinel 2NG.
My understanding was that this was expected to be impossible with the existing architecture, so I'm very curious to hear more!

Several villages were ordered to evacuate as hundreds of firefighters worked to contain the blaze. The fires have caused significant disruption, including power outages, water shortages, and damage to property. This Copernicus #Sentinel2 image, acquired on 23 June, shows a dense smoke plume rising from the island and drifting south-west across the Aegean Sea.
The open data provided by the #CopernicusEU Sentinel satellites is key to monitoring and mapping the extent and effects of wildfires around the world, informing damage assessments and supporting emergency management operations.

Phytoplankton blooms occur almost every spring in the English Channel, driven by a combination of environmental factors which converge during the seasonal transition. As daylight hours increase and surface waters warm, nutrient inputs from terrestrial runoff and wind-driven vertical mixing create optimal conditions for microalgal growth in the sunlit upper layers of the water column.
