@wilhelm @CoMaps I feel like this is just a case of having written software long enough to know the hypotheticals.
"Oh why do users keep hitting back there and losing their settings? Obviously we should save by default."
or
"Everyone seems to be using this same feature 3 levels deep in the settings, lets move it up to the front page."
There are LOTS of random things #telemetry helps you improve in software if you're the type who cares about UI/UX.

#RitaMeier was one of many people who reached out to us after we began reporting on the #TeslaFiles – a cache of 23,000 leaked documents and 100 gigabytes of confidential data shared by an anonymous whistleblower.

The first #report we published looked at problems with #Tesla’s #autopilot system, which allows the cars to temporarily drive on their own, taking over steering, braking and acceleration.

Though touted by the company as “Full Self-Driving” (#FSD), it is designed to assist, not replace, the #driver, who should keep their eyes on the road and be ready to intervene at any time.”

Fantastic read and gives you some idea how #AI is already killing people aided Corporate negligence.

Here's the code for the #otel integration to my silly monster project. It'll send trace data up to #grafana

I didn't share the code before because I mostly just ripped examples out of the otel documentation, the grafana wizard, and a couple of stack overflow posts so there's very little original code of my own here. It's nothing special.

Perhaps it'll be useful to somebody, though... somebody who needs kaiju in their dashboards?

Microsoft opens up on Windows telemetry, tells us most of what data it collects - Ars Technica - Since it was first released there has been widespread concern about Windows 10's data collection, as the operating system collects various kinds of data and sends it back to Microsoft. The company says it uses this information to determine how well systems are running a…

Sure, not everybody using #LLVM is controlled by #BigTech, but they consolidate their power anyway by spreading dependencies over something that depends on BigTech money to exist.

"overwhelming"?

Tbh, I don't think so.

Whenever I see an interesting software developed in #Rust or #Go (not LLVM, but same issue) I look for alternative implementation and if I can't find any I simply forget about it. The issue is real and pretty evident with Go (and #Csharp) introduction of #telemetry, which was rapidly normalized by devs 'cause they were already locked-in like slaves.

LLVM just seems slightly different, but it's not, because of its complexity.

With a solution this powerful, it deserves a full-blown Palooza!

I do wonder, has there been any app so far that implemented #Telemetry with an "on-demand" basis? Meaning that users can report bugs through the app itself and optionally allow for telemetry to be turned on temporarily until the bug has been identified and fixed? If there's no contact info attached to the report it would still be anonymized.

I think this could really be a good compromise, as long as it's implemented correctly and transparently. 🤔

#Mozilla Clarifies on #DataCollection: #FirefoxLabs to Not Require #Telemetry or Studies in Future #Updates

“I’m glad that Mozilla came to the same conclusion I did — that Labs features shouldn’t be locked behind data collection.”

Me too! Although I don't personally use #Firefox, I can say that it's not good if #Chromium becomes the only #browserEngine. Monopolising is not a good thing, and this seems to be even truer in #technology.
