Earthenware Tile, c. 1875
Design by CHRISTOPHER DRESSER (British, 1834-1904)
Manufactured by MINTON (British, Stoke-on-Trent)
On display at Metropolitan Museum of Art (1991.110.2)
“Highly stylized and executed in a striking blue and white, Dresser's elegant design captures his dedication to the study of Japanese decorative arts. The bright moon behind the dancing #cranes creates an otherworldly, almost mystical atmosphere.”

Medieval Tiles (13th C) from Muchelney St Peter and St Paul Church, #Somerset
Tile made by the potter Jan Spoer from Issum, NRW, Germany. in 1721.
The tile was made as an advertisement for his work with a proud plea for his craftsmanship and the request not to haggle on the price because he makes honest work that deserves a fair price.
