Yesterday I released Unhaunter 0.2.7, and for the first time I added Linux+Windows builds. But I've no idea if the windows ones work or not, so if anyone could try it and let me know if it works...
Tried it (both exe), it works :)
@Beldarak Nice! So both builds, with GNU and MSVC do work on windows! :)
Thanks a lot for testing and letting me know
@deavid @Beldarak @deavid I've tested the exe files on a second computer with Windows 10. I get the warning dialog (I've made screenshots if you are interested) and both work too.
I'm guessing that the first Windows 10 machine doesn't have the Visual Studio DLLs installed. So that might be the reason why I fails to start without a error message.
Ah yes I tested on Windows 10 btw. It's my gaming pc so I had the vc redist installed
@Beldarak @MadMike77 wait, so BOTH versions, GNU and MSVC need the vcredist?
Is there any difference for you between them at all? does the GNU one show a console or something?
Thanks a lot to both of you, this is very useful information!
@deavid @Beldarak On one Win10 PC both exe work on the other Win10 PC both fail to start.
The missing dll is just wild guessing. The PC where it doesn't work is the one where my kids are gaming so I didn't install Visual Studio stuff on it.
Maybe I can take a closer look with sysinternal listdll to analyze what's being used and what is missing.
@deavid Looks nice and emits some strong "UFO - Enemy Unknown" vibes. Maybe you should mention that this is a real-time game and not a turn based game (or isn't it?).
@MadMike77 It is a real time game, yeah - It's not a strategy game nor turn based.
You seem to be the first one giving me this feedback, now I'm confused. Maybe I should add "real time" somewhere when I promote the game.
@deavid It's probably just me because "UFO" and "X-Com" are turn-based and the screenshots so strongly reminded me of those. Here a example screenshot from "X-Com" taken by PCGamesN
@MadMike77 oh yeah, there's nearly zero games out there that are isometric and you're expected to move with WASD. I'm hitting this problem commonly. You can play my game in the browser: https://www.unhaunter.com/ - and you'll see the default controls are a bit surprising. Can be changed in the settings but people are always surprised.
@deavid I was able to run it in Firefox and Chromium und Linux. It was slightly slow on Firefox and very slow on Chromium... the machine has only an onboard GPU so I guess this is expected.
I've only run it for a few seconds while seeing the isometric view walking around a bit.
@MadMike77 You can try to run it natively to see if it helps: https://github.com/deavid/unhaunter/releases/tag/v0.2.7 - but yes, onboard GPU might not be enough. The game might look retro, but has a bit of eye candy that requires GPU shaders.
