Hitchin Hackspace

Regular readers (do we have any 😉) ... May remember we had a "thing" we had hoped to have ready for @emf but sadly we weren't able to get it ready in time. Well today the thing made it's first appearance at the Airbus Fun day.
We present to you for your delictation and entertainment the GameBoy Monumental. The screen is made up of 48 500mm x 125mm/64 x 16 pixel RGB LED display panels arranged in a 1.5m tall 2m wide display. The individual LED modules were built in to 6 off 1m by 0.5m sub panels ( 2 x 500mm squares) with each sub panel driven by a I don't have all the details yet but will provide more soon. We have some development and build photos which I will post shortly. I suspect a full technical write up should appear on our website in due course. The panels are part of a batch of over 200 we were given by London Hackspace some years ago.

The GameBoy Monumental is a very large upscaled GameBoy hand held console. It has been set up in a large wide corridor. The corridor is about 4m wide and the ceiling is about 5m high. The floor is a shiny dark grey and there are white walls left and right. In the foreground in the floor is a 2m square access hatch painted with yellow warning stripes. Just to the left are some sections of the GameBoy body panels waiting to be assembled on to the Gameboy. The Gameboy is 2m wide and 3m high but is positioned at an angle off vertical and appears to be partially buried in to the floor to a level that passes through the lower button on the front panel. The front panel has the black "+" joypad on the left and the button, and a half, on the right. There are 3 hackspace members stood by the GameBoy. One on the left, two on the right. Their heads are about halfway up the screen. The screen is showing Tetris on it.

The floor is a shiny dark grey and there are white walls left and right. Only the top half of the 3m high GameBoy can be seen. The corridor is full of people, wall to wall about 10 people deep all watching the game of Tetris in progress on the screen.
