The pilot is wearing full flight gear including a helmet with goggles attached on top of his head, earphones connected by wires going down the sides of his face into his ears, gloves which are visible on both hands gripping the wing of the plane in front him and strapped around his arms for added protection during flights; he also has boots on that seem to be high-topped or at least knee-length reaching above where most men's pants usually end. His uniform is what might have been worn by many service personnel from World War II, leather flying jackets with pockets all over which could hold numerous items needed in the cockpit such as maps, charts and other tools for navigation along with personal belongings like cigarettes.
