The Crestwood Custom is a blast to play. The mini humbuckers are bright and have some bite. The tremotone tremolo is smooth. A surprisingly comfortable guitar to play. Has a nice range, from mellow jazz to Hives' "Hate to Say I Told You So" rock and roll. The neck access is the same as the SG, but the fret hand doesn't seem as far away. A real surprise and a very unique sound. I've decided any complete guitar collection must have one. 😉

So, I love the look of my SG. I live the legacy of the guitar type and I think it's, in my instance, a pretty punk guitar.

But I hate the sound of the humbuckers in this guitar. So muddy, such a lack of clarity.

So I've bought a set of P90s. Nothing too expensive but should give me some more clarity in the sound. I'll report back.
Next mod after that will be machineheads.

Need SG advice!

Still a beginner (~9 mos) with my Squire Strat, but my heart wants to add a Gibson SG Modern. My rational mind says it's too soon to justify - get a nice Epiphone SG Modern Figured for 1/3 the cost.

I've tried the Gibson at my FLGS, and watched a million review videos, but don't have a local place to try the Epiphone.

Gibson would be a large purchase for me, while the Epi would leave room in the budget for more kit.

Advice?
