I'm having some serious issues with 2FA on my whole server but specifically what's biting me now is my #GoToSocial instance. Does anyone have any suggestions one how to get to my settings page if I can't get 2FA to work? I tried using the CLI to change the password which did change the password but it doesn't remove / reset 2FA. Is there anything I can do from the CLI that I'm missing?

Also if anyone has any suggestions on what could be going wrong in general with my server I'd also love to hear that too. I'm running TrueNAS and have tried adding more NTP servers in my settings and I can see anything obviously wrong there. Idk. I'm getting very frustrated with it all.

I'm looking for people who have successfully migrated from SQLite to PostgreSQL for #GotoSocial. I did some tinkering using PgLoader and wasn't able to migrate the schema without dropping default values and indexes.

The next step would be to take the database structure from a clean PostgreSQL installation and migrate just the data using PgLoader, but I haven't attempted that yet.

Please share your experiences :-)

Issue I've noticed with GoToSocial since upgrading to 0.19.x

I have a second account at Mastodon.social, mostly for troubleshooting.

I've noticed there can be a significant lag — sometimes an hour or more — between when I post something on GtS and when it appears in the test account.

Rebooting my VPS appears to resolve the issue.

I'm wondering if anyone else is/has encountered this issue?

Any ideas on what could be causing it, and possible fixes?

So, I built a new #GoToSocial instance and have migrated back. A few things have brought me back since my last GoToSocial instance:

  • Editing of statuses. This is one of the big ones and it arrived in v0.18.0. In the past, I had to delete and repost -- a lot since I make a lot of mistakes. Being able to edit is a big thing.
  • MFA. More security is always best.
  • Ivory support. Nothing that the GoToSocial folks control, but @ivory finally got support for alphanumeric post ID's which means that I can finally use it with GoToSocial.

This is on top of previous things that I liked about GoToSocial:

  • Ease of maintenance. It's so easy to install, so easy to maintain and easy to backup.
  • Low system requirements. I can run it on a low cost VPS.
  • Pretty profile page. I really like the profile page layout on GoToSocial vs #Mastodon. The GoToSocial profile is clean and is completely focused on the person. The Mastodon profile is a bit messy with instance stuff in the left and right columns; and profile in the center.

There's some stuff I'm still looking forward on GoToSocial. The biggest one would be the ability to prune posts, both personal and for instance.

Codeberg.org[feature] user function: prune old posts### Is your feature request related to a problem ? I'd have to adjust mastopurge to a degree to be able to periodically batch delete posts from gts. It would be nicer to have this feature integrated. ### Describe the solution you'd like. * in the admin/user panel, the user can set a boolean op...

Ok interesting, I started through the my follow list on my alt account and manually refollowing people. So it seems my follow list didn't fail to import but rather got hung up somewhere else along the way. Because the accounts were all marked as "Pending" but when I clicked unfollow then follow again it went through. Still not sure what's happening there but at least it's more troubleshooting information. Everything else seems to work great. I've checked back and forth the timelines of my accounts and they match pretty well nowadays. I'm 🤏 this close to trying to do a full migrate but I'm still a bit nervous as I don't really know what I'm doing.

Anyone out there that is familiar with running a #GoToSocial instance. Mine has not imported most my following list yet from weeks ago. I'd like to find the hold-up or understand what's going wrong. Does anyone know a good place to start looking? Are there certain logs I should be looking for/at? I'd also take suggestions and best practices on how I can improve this server if you have any.

Some info on my setup:
- Using docker compose
- DB type: sqlite
- Storage backend: local

This mostly started out as a test but if I can get a good handle on all this, I think I'll make this my family's server. But again I wanna know it'll work well before migrating my main account and my wife's.
