Elusive giant #StickInsect species discovered in #rainforests of Far North Queensland abc.net.au/news/2025-07-31/gia paper: mapress.com/zt/article/view/zo

"They live in high-altitude #forest, high in the canopy, and unless a bird or a storm knocks one down we just can't find them up there... Weighing at up to 44 grams, A. alta is believed to be the heaviest #insect in #Australia... due to the elusive nature of the species, scientists are yet to find and describe a male."

After my first roll (Ilford HP5+) with the Pentax 17 film camera, I have the feeling that the Auto mode does not focus well compared to the Program or Bokeh mode with the right zone focus. Many photos I took in Auto mode are blurred, especially where the focus point was not clear, or where the object was close to the camera. This photo is in Bokeh mode.

What do you think?

Time to carve a new block! This is a transverse-banded flower fly in progress. Because of its yellow and black stripes, tendency to hover (it’s a hover fly after all) and love of flowers, it can be mistaken for a bee. But no, it’s a fly. The eyes are the real giveaway for this bee mimic, to my mind. While not a bee, it is an excellent pollinator and another friend to gardeners.
