Another truckload of #lucerne arrived this morning.
#Lambs & #alpacas are loving it.
This morning I fed them some #lucerne & #poppedlupins.
Just now I gave the #MudBrothers some more carrots (the huge, long ones #Woolies sell as #TheOddBunch. I slice lengthwise & each big carrot becomes 4.) & another bale of lucerne.
Chaser pictured, eating something like his 12th carrot of the day. So far. (He’s ignoring the newest bale of lucerne & hoping for more #carrots.)
I just returned from feeding the #MudBrothers & the #lambs.
As I came through the gate they rushed towards me - normal.
Ozzie (the older, white #alpaca) then spotted I had a bucket of crushed lupins on me.
He reared up on his hind legs & then head butted my shoulder! Not normal.
I’m not that stable on my legs at the best of times & his head butt sent me into the fence.
Woke this morning with my left leg twisted under me.
As a result of awkward sleeping, my left knee is giving me hell again.
I took some pain meds & was waiting for them to kick in when the neighbour’s kids & their visiting friends (school holidays) asked if they could feed the #lambs & #alpacas.
I’d already cut up a couple of kilos of carrots for the alpacas, so the kids were very excited about hand feeding the #MudBrothers & the lambs got to feed on the crushed lupins.
The #alpacas & #lambs this chilly morning.
I’m guessing the #MudBrothers have been eyeing off that new truckload of #lucerne since it arrived yesterday. So I tried to frame them with it as I walked towards them.
The #MudBrothers got lucerne bricks & carrots while the #Wiltipoll twins got cracked lupins & lucerne bricks.
The #MudBrothers & #Wiltipoll #lambs were fed & watered earlier.
There’s still so much #thistle out there!
The transplanted to potting mix bags #JerusalemArtichoke didn’t like the 35° #Celsius we eventually got to yesterday.
This morning they’ve been given a good soaking & are starting to recover.
It might hit 37° or 38° today, so I’ll check through the day.
The #Mudbrothers & the #Wiltipoll #lambs water troughs both went down around 5 inches overnight!
Troughs have been topped up & the #alpacas & #sheep have been fed.
The town’s #CFA #fire #siren went earlier, but I think it’s just a drill.
Very #overcast - promised rains didn’t arrive again though.
The #MudBrothers were given carrots just now, which is why Chaser is so close to me in this pic. #alpacas
#Wiltipoll #lambs & the #MudBrothers have been fed & watered.
I spread 8 bricks around the paddock just in case the #alpacas tried to keep the bricks to themselves.
I haven’t seen them do this, but just in case.
Then, coming into the front yard, I lost my balance & fell into a rose bush!
Sigh.
The #Wiltipoll walked over to the #mudbrothers
The sheep seem to think the alpacas are just big sheep - while the alpacas have come to the conclusion that these new beasts are harmless.
I hung waaaaay back so I wouldn’t get Chaser all defensive.
Very blurry long range phone pics.
The #Wiltipoll twin #wethers have arrived!
The #MudBrothers are hanging back. Unsure of the new beasts.
We didn’t get more than 27° Celsius here today.
I checked the boys #water early & filled both the #sheep & #alpaca #troughs as the #MudBrothers are really drinking much more than usual in this heat - or Chaser is spilling it out of the troughs with his Summer dips.
The #MudBrothers are going to have another warm day today (31° Celsius) after a coolish spell. #alpacas
I had to top up the #MudBrothers water this morning.
Their trough was down 5 or 6 inches from yesterday, which was a mild day.
I suspect Chaser has been soaking in the trough again & displacing the water.
Chaser is the one looking at me in this morning’s pic. #alpacas
We must have ended up getting rain last night - the #MudBrothers are muddy this morning.
8° outside! #alpacas
The #MudBrothers have been fed & watered.
I bet they are enjoying being sheared now!
37° Celsius today.
Interesting thing - Chaser usually approaches the feed from the right, not the left. Hmmm. There’s been some sort of Cosmic change…
I wonder what the #MudBrothers make of the new “sheep trough”?
It’s longer than their trough, but not as high. Definitely made for sheep & marketed as such.
I’d bet $5 that Chaser had a go at sitting in it last night.
*Chaser treats the water trough as a bath when it gets really hot. Ozzie hasn’t ever shown any interest in trying out soaking when it’s hot.
