I have Indonesian friends. I respect them. When Malaysia is attacked militarily one day, I believe Indonesia will also help Malaysia unconditionally. However, this is just what I believe, not yet tested in real combat. The Malaysian army is also made up of Sabahan and Sarawakian people, so many; I witnessed this when I was a child. These are unsung heroes, and their Royal Ranger Regiment has roots that are older than the mainstream regiment, only labeled as "second seniority" compared to the other one. Therefore, it is clearly offensive and unhealthy to label the Indonesians "Konoha," making fun of them. PASKAL of Malaysia has been trained by one of them, an Indonesian special forces unit. Malaysians need to refer back to guideline number 1 (believing that we always have the option to be kind and respectful, as taught by holy books), and the same goes for guideline number 5. We're being tested on this, and history has taught us to be strong and never blindly trust foreign powers.

@JWeitzman

woke?

The word was once pronounced as "sane." Regional versions included kind, hero, saintly, mensch, and a rare Jimmy.

As in, what a mensch. Or, John Lewis was a hero. Or, look.its Jimmy Carter. Or, the Raptors won, not because of one talent, but on the vastly different players having unshakeable mutual respect for each other.

A conversation amongst #Kpop fans included this mention of the variety of fans and the importance of inclusivity and mutual respect in the fandom here on Mastodon - qualities sorely lacking in some other Kpop spaces.

Anyway, that part of the conversation reminded me of the history of inclusivity and mutual respect, which in turn set me thinking about religious "toleration" in early modern European history, which in turn reminded me of the Edict of Torda in the Transylvania of 1568:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edict_of

I was going to finish there with a pronouncement of "There's a lot more to Transylvania than Dracula!" which is true, but, on reflection, a bad note on which to end because it sounds smug and condescending.

Yes, early modern history is fascinating, anybody who can visit Transylvania should do so, and "toleration" deserves much attention from both a historical and philosophical point of view - but shouldn't I be more alive to today's interest in vampirism and to goth subcultures ? Shouldn't I remember that, in the words of @pixelcats, "all ways of stanning are valid" and that includes the stanning of Transylvania too?

From Kpop to C16 Torda and back again!

ApobangpoPixelcats⁷ (@pixelcats@apobangpo.space)@Erzbet @girlbandgeek@mastodon.social @abuelaskpop @planetnine@mastodon.social I agree so much, .. but I would also hate to see the gatekeepery, condescending vibe that goes on in many fandom spaces leak over into this space. History is important. Culture and etiquette are also important. But, our ways of being evolve and grow, too. We have a range of eras of fans here, and all ways of stanning are valid.

“If you don’t defend your people, you shouldn’t lead.”

I respect the sentiment, but here’s the truth:

Leadership isn’t blind defense — it’s built on mutual trust.
If your people don’t stand with you, how do you defend them?

Just like in cybersecurity, one trusted vulnerability can cause damage.
In leadership, it’s the same. Loyalty must go both ways.

@DharmaDog

Good for you. Very nice.

I meant, of course, that original posters should put their videos where they are best seen.

Some may like putting their videos on several platforms.

I'd start putting them on Mastodon, which accepts very large videos, or Peertube.

Research yourself which platforms to use for your vids.

This temp gig I'm working is essential supplemental, so I would endure the overtime even with a bad fit. But my team mate is a godsend and I am so thankful 🥰 #MutualRespect #gigwork

I've tapped a few people for emotional support, and I chose correctly who to confide in. I cried today, I needed to cry.

I am not alone! I have assembled a support network, I can rely on different people for different areas of advice/listening. I have now demonstrated that I can use it.

@evacide : we've seen that in NL happen too, a manager of a well known TV program publicly asking why women did/do not speak up (or report it) when men (in his TV show) tried to, or actually did, abuse them (nltimes.nl/2024/06/12/rapper-a).

It's not women who are the problem, men are.

We (people) have brains that we can and must use to control any instinctive impulses.

After all, we ("straight" men) also use our brains to determine whether *we* find it acceptable if someone else "comes to close" - in particular if it is another male.

We ("straight" men) should ask ourselves how we'd react if another man treated us the way we plan to treat a woman.

It's not hard, just do it.

NL Times · Rapper Ali B denies sexually assaulting, raping three women; Man arrested in courtRapper Ail B immediately denied all allegations of rape and sexual assault against him at the start of his trial in the court in Hilversum on Wednesday. He is accused of two counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape of three women. All sexual contact was consensual and never under duress, the rapper said. A man was arrested in court for disrupting the trial shortly after it started.

@Sherifazuhur : Personally I prefer to see all of people's heads, but (keep on reading).

Apart from the fact that it makes it easier to uniquely identify each person, IMO people are beautiful - heads in particular, very much influenced by hair (color and style). Changing their looks often makes people even more interesting.

Note: doing one's best to look attractive should *never* be confused with "I want sex with anyone". Conservative men *must* be forced to stop thinking that. If *used*, human intelligence is stronger than the instinctive desire to reproduce.

Apart from all that: as a security guy, I'm more amazed every day by the variety in human faces and possible expressions, combined with the incredible human capability to accurately recognize each other (of the same race in particular). No technical solution that I know of, nor expect any way soon, beats humans on facial recognition.

Back on topic: exactly because *I* want to be respected for what *I* choose to wear and how *I* look, everybody should have that right. Whether we like it or not.

We don't have to befriend everyone, nor agree on everything, but what the world desparately needs now (perhaps more than ever) is mutual *respect*.

So I heard on the news that on more than one occasion, Canadians at a sports game of some sort, booed at the American National Anthem. I was appalled at hearing that. Every American I have met has been kind, cool, interesting, and just all-around nice people. Do I like all Americans? No. But then, I don't like all Canadians either.
I understand the sentiment behind it, but what do we as Canadians do? Hate ALL Americans because of the actions of, essentially, one? What's the endgame here, to make everyday Americans hate us? What does that accomplish?
Gross, Canada. Gross.
