One UI 7 Showcase: Suggestions for wallpaper style

When you are changing your device wallpaper and you’re finding yourself stuck in lock screen layout because it needs to match your wallpaper, One UI 7 saves you time by introducing a new feature called layout suggestions for lock screen and wallpapers. You will be able to get suggested layouts easily that work best with your wallpaper. It applies the following:

  • Effects
  • Frames
  • Colors
  • Clock style
  • Clock font
  • Clock position

In order to use this feature, long press on an empty area around your homescreen and press Wallpaper and Style, or go to Settings > Wallpaper and Style, and press Change wallpaper. Once done, select an image, and press Suggest, just like below.

Once pressed, you’ll be presented with three suggested styles that you may like.

In case you don’t like the current suggestions, you can press Suggest again. Or, if you like the suggestion, scroll to that one, and press Apply. You’ll go back to the lockscreen preview that shows you the lock screen layout and the chosen wallpaper.

Press Done, and your wallpaper and your lock screen will change according to the selected suggestion. Here’s another example of the usage of this feature.

One UI 8 brings further customization by not only introducing new clock fonts, but by also introducing a font that expands vertically according to the contents of your wallpaper.

To obtain the update, follow these steps:

  4. You should be able to see the update information. Verify the version with your device model posted above.
  5. Click on Download, let it download, and click on Install. Make sure that you download the update through Wi-Fi.

This security update should take 5 to 10 minutes maximum to install once your phone reboots. Make sure that you have the phone charged fully before initiating the update process to avoid interruptions. Back up your data to your PC, the cloud, or any other device in case the update went wrong. Don’t interrupt the update process, or you’ll experience problems later. To mitigate green line issues caused by heat, do the update on a well-ventilated room.

One UI 7 Showcase: App Archives

Android 15 and later provides app archiving, which allows you to save space on your device while retaining the application data and icon. It was showcased for the first time last year. Android removes the application and its permissions, temporary files, and notifications. Samsung had rolled out the One UI 7 update starting April 17th after the rollout reboot, and this version brought app archiving to eligible Samsung phones.

To archive an application, go to your device’s settings, and navigate to Apps. Then, select an application, such as FeedMe, and press Archive.

Once archived, the application status will change to Not Installed, and you won’t be able to access the application anymore.

Additionally, an archived app will have the cloud download icon overlaid on top of the original app icon. The archived app will be shown in the app drawer, though.

As for the Play Store listing, when you go to the archived app’s page, you’ll see that it considers the application as not installed.

In the app drawer, when you tap on the archived app icon, you’ll be prompted to confirm the re-installation of the application.

Press Restore, and the application will be restored in the background by downloading the application itself from the Play Store.

Additionally, in the app drawer, you’ll see the “Restoring…” text under the application that is being restored. Once it finishes, the application gets restored, and its data will be preserved.

If you can’t see the app archive option in Settings, it’s possible that your device is not eligible for this feature. For example, devices that are still running Android 14 will not be eligible for app archiving.
