Watched Rebel Moon yesterday... Quite possibly the worst film I've ever seen 😳

Knew nothing about it going in, nor this Zack Snyder fella, but OMG. Story makes no sense, dialogue is bad, every sci-fi trope you can think of, space nazis, even the acting is bad. No surprises because you know what happens 5 mins before it does. Lots of random slow-mos for no reason. Cardboard characters with no soul. How the hell does crap like this get funded??

"Rebel Moon: Part Two: Director's Cut" (2024) is a follow-up of, unsurprisingly, "Part One." Jokes aside, I was a bit disappointed with the pacing, which was slugging in the first hour, which is something that didn't happen in the first part. It's also narrowed down to one village on one planet. It got better later, but the whole thing is plot-wise too childish for adults and too graphic/sexual for kids. But visually it's stunning, all the designs, etc.

Not sure why #RebelMoon has gotten such a bad rap. Sure it's not earth shattering in terms of plot, but it was a lot of fun to watch. I quite enjoy movies where you can just turn your brain off, even predictable ones - this one had lots of slow mo, lots of SFX and was just something decent to while away a few hours. I suppose everyone's a movie snob these days. I'd give it 7/10 and will likely watch it again sometime, but the director's cuts of part 1 and 2 being six hours total? hmm..

Finished chapter two of #RebelMoon director's cut and... hot take... I think this was really good!

I'm not sure why the bad reviews, maybe the DC makes all the difference.

Sure, it's tropey, and unoriginal, but it dropped some interesting world building aspects which Star Wars has been failing at recently, was sonically and visually strong, and had me really wanting a part three.

Just finished #RebelMoon Part One DC over two nights, having been on my list for a while but put it off by it's bad reception. Charlie Hunnam's absolutely shocking Northern Irish accent aside, I really enjoyed it!

I split the 200 minute odd running time across two nights, which worked well. Yes, it's very tropey, and a lot of rather horrible bokeh lens effects which was apparently a stylistic choice but just looks like cheap and nasty glass.

But I still enjoyed it and ready for part two.
