it should be illegal to sell appliances that omit tactile control interfaces. no, I don't care if the appliance came with a remote which has a tactile interface; the appliance itself needs to be tactile.
and if I'd known before I bought this unit that it didn't come with tactile controls I wouldn't have bought it.
bonus stupid: the remote has an LCD display, right? it does not appear to have a backlight, because apparently if I don't want to blast myself at 3am just to adjust the A/C I can go fuck myself.

Anyone know of an accessible IRC-client for mac?
I’d like to try IRC, but I’ve never heard of any accessible mac-clients for it.
Or should I just use linux or windows-apps for that?

Currently I can't see any alt text on this image.
There are people here who participate in Mastodon with a screen reader. In order to be able to imagine what has been posted, they need an image description as detailed as possible. You enter that when you upload the image. #AltTextMovement

@mcourcel Oh I know right? Similarly here when they banned the single use plastic grocery bags which always had handles in favor of the paper ones that never do here. I asked a township commissioner if disability advocacy groups were consulted about this and I wasn't just thinking of the #Blind but also the elderly, those with dexterity issues or people who have respiratory issues or heart issues. She said they did but couldn't mname one group that had been consulted. I may periodically and from time to time think not so nice things when I carry bags with no handles that rip easily from my front porch to my kitchen. And yes, before anyone says it I know the reusable bags have handles but firstly when the pandemic happened the first things that weren't allowed in stores were those; and secondly those of us who must use grocery delivery services can't make use of them at all.
Could someone recommend me a good pair of sports-earbuds?
I love my airpods pro and my bose quiet comforts, but I do not feel confident wearing them out in public.
I just can’t get a perfect fit with any of them, no matter which of their included eartip-sizes I try on them.
My understanding is that sports-earbuds have extra things on them to better hold them in place in your ears, like earhooks and simmular.
Also, how accessible are the apps from the various manufacturers?
I know that bose’s app is very accessible, but what about brands like anker and JBL?

Aira at the 2025 NYC Blind Travel Foundation Media Weekend!
Aira is proud to sponsor the 2025 Blind Travel Foundation, providing visual interpreting minutes for grant winners' travel projects. We joined grant winners, co-sponsors (Two Blind Brothers & Feeldom), and the BTF team for a weekend of connection and exploration.
A highlight was a tactile tour of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, enhanced by Aira's geofencing for free visual interpreting and AI. The tour brought exhibits to life through visuals, textures, and an amazing guide.
We're excited for our third year partnering with this impactful organization and eager to follow upcoming projects, including an accessible outdoor guide, a blind music education podcast, and a video series on blind history. Learn more: https://www.blindtravel.org/
Can someone please explain to me how to add keyboard-shortcuts with voiceover in mona for mac?
The shortcuts app is seriously giving me a headache.
I whish mona had its own shortcuts-dialog in its own settings.

Just dropped my first-ever musical review on the blog.
Not about Linux. Not about hardware. Not about accessibility APIs exploding at runtime.
It’s about The Book of Mormon —
audio-described, uncensored, unapologetic, and fucking brilliant.
I’ve been to great described shows before.
But this one?
One man with a mic (his name is Christifer) made sure I got everything:
the filth, the fury, the frog sex mime, the jazz hands, the glitter, and the tears.
He didn’t censor.
He didn’t flinch.
And because of that, I didn’t miss a goddamn thing.
This isn’t a “theatre review.”
This is a battle cry for access that doesn’t sanitize joy.
It’s loud. It’s profane. It’s emotional as hell.
And yeah, it’s on my blog — because fuck staying in one lane.

I'd really like to use Linux as main desktop OS, but the entry point for users that need reliable screen reading / Braille capabilities, entering that landscape looks quite messy, with problems during setup, or Orca with a handful of problems. Any tips? #Linux #A11Y #Accessibility #Blind
