I was in a very large grocery / big box store today here in my hometown. Mid-afternoon, parking lot half full, lots of shoppers in the aisles.
Then there was a fire. [1] They announced it was not a drill, drop everything and get to the exits, do not pass go, do not collect $200. There was visible smoke as I was on my way to the exit. First firetruck got there about 30 seconds after I made it out the door, and 2 more before I got out of the parking lot. [2]
I've checked the website of every local newspaper, TV station, and other local news outlet - no stories, anywhere.
Small / local mainstream media: "Why does no one want to get their news from us anymore?"
FFS.
[1] There's a whole other story / issue about this, but I'll save that for another post.
[2] Both of the cars in front and behind me had drivers who were completely oblivious, not moving to the side, blocking the fire trucks from entering the parking lot. What the hell is wrong with people? Besides the fact that my city is chock full of people with driver's licenses who absolutely, positively Do Not Know How To Drive.
