PSA: DNS changes for thi.ng and various subdomains and aliases are currently propagating, for example:

asm.thi.ng/ - ARM/STM32 baremetal resources
demo.thi.ng/ - Hundreds of example projects for various thi.ng libraries
dependencies.thi.ng/ - Dependency graph/matrix
docs.thi.ng/ - API documentation
forth.thi.ng/ - Online Forth REPL[1] (also check out other shader examples from the thi.ng/charlie readme)
shadergraph.thi.ng/ - Node based shader graph[2]

So happy I completed this migration (now fully outside US) 🎉! You should hopefully not see any downtime, but if so, please try again later...

Small tip for those who're also planning to migrate away from AWS S3 to compatible storage providers: You can continue using AWS CLI tools with the new provider/endpoint, but you might have to define additional config options for the new profile in `~/.aws/credentials`:

```
[new-profile-name]
aws_access_key_id = ...
aws_secret_access_key = ...
endpoint_url = https://...
request_checksum_calculation = when_required
response_checksum_validation = when_required
```

I had to add these last two lines to make it work with Hetzner object storage, otherwise just got upload errors...

In AWS CLI v2.23.0, we released changes to the S3 client that adopts new default integrity protections. For more information on default integrity behavior, please refer to the official SDK document...

Organizations are continuously managing vast amounts of data from various sources. Two critical processes that enable effective #datamanagement are #dataintegration & #datamigration. While these terms are often used interchangeably, they serve distinct purposes within an organization's #datastrategy.

Understanding the differences, similarities, & when to focus on each can help businesses make informed decisions that align with their goals: rpb.li/ZBT

while it's nice that #mastodon is technically #decentralized, it's important to be aware of the limitations. for example, there is a feature to migrate your account to another instance, but *your posts do not come with you.* while there is a separate feature to export your posts, there is no way to import them.

a request to "Support post migration" has been around and discussed for more than five years, currently stalled on some technic decision-making that leadership doesn't appear to be actively interested in: github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i

nor are there are any public plans to move forward on this: joinmastodon.org/roadmap

since that issue was created, there have been multiple high-profile instance shutdowns, even of big-name instances. i am concerned that these sorts of problems can and will - over time - discourage folks from taking a chance on anything but the biggest, best-funded instances, and reduce effective user choice. does this sound like a familiar pattern to anybody?

#177 – Support Account Migration – was closed after implementing follower migration, but this is only one small part of a true migration. To really be able to change instances, you need to be able ...

I'm resurrecting my plugin wp2grav [1], which helps an admin export #wordpress content for use in a #GravCMS site.

Currently working:

  • Post content
  • User roles
  • Users
  • Uploaded content

Please submit issues to the repo, and I'll try to get to them as soon as I can.
