@derSammler

I have a #DEC DECpc in a box waiting for me to find a good way to display my PCs.

I was really surprised to see how different they are despite being IBM "Compatible".

CPU Daughterboard, the Case having this really weird metal bar running across the whole PC just to press a button in the PSU to turn on the PC. 🤣

Most annoyingly, the CPU Daughterboard is hardlocked to the specific CPU it came with. Needs an Intel Overdrive to upgrade the CPU.

Finally, the first #DEC #AlphaStation 255 is almost restored. Way more work than anticipated... Was quite shocked what a cheap mess the PSU in these things are. Stuff is held in place only by rivets and bend tabs; trying to remove the fan connector for cleaning ripped out the whole socket from the pcb due to very poor soldering... Anyway, the PSU is clean now and only needs reassembling. After that, I can reinstall the CD-ROM drive and the system is finished. 🙂

Just got my hands on a DEC PDP-11/150 fresh from the US 🇺🇸 — a glorious addition to the collection at hacking.museum !
It’s my first time actually using a PDP-11, even if this one’s from the later generations.

And the best part? It works. Like, actually powers on and runs.
Meanwhile, modern machines panic if you forget a semicolon.
Progress, right?

What typenof RetroCTF i will create with that one ... Let see

It knocked on the door. Oh hello. Come in please. Yes, of course you can stay.

Currently I am waiting for a SCSI terminator and an AUI transceiver to arrive. The transceiver is necessary to connect the machine to a local lan. Luckily I have found a transceiver that translates to RJ45. Most others seem to have BNC connectors.
I'm not sure yet what to do with the 3W3 graphics connector. It seems to be impossible to get a cable. Perhaps I will have to make my own cable, if possible. First, I'm gonna try to connect a terminal to use this machine.

Another piece from the #DEC lot restored today: a BA353 #StorageWorks desktop expansion unit. Left and middle slot only had blanks, now they have proper trays. The left one has a RZ26 installed, the middle one is still empty. Also had to re-cap the RRD42 CD-ROM drive due to heavy leakage.

This should help me getting any #VAXstation up and running quite fast, as I can install a ready-to-go version of VMS on the hard disk in the left bay and/or boot from install media if the VAXstation itself has no CD-ROM drive. 🙂

Great, all four cards are working perfectly. 🙂

With the AlphaStations, I also got two spare 9.1 GB hard disks. Tested them and both booted right into Windows NT 4.0 SP5. Saves me quite a bit of work. 🥳

btw, speed is phenomenal. You are on the desktop in about 30 seconds after POST is complete. And it feels very snappy.
