MUTUAL AID CALL OUT
Tiohtià:ke/Montreal

Disabled queer community member seeking food support.

Chronic illness and poverty is currently impeding their ability to get enough food on their own so we are trying to coordinate assistance from the community. The last food provided should last til the 17th.
We are looking for people who could do any of the following: a grocery run, a grocery delivery order, order some food, make some food, or offer funds to support acquiring food/paying for deliveries.

Whether you need more details, or feel ready to help already, please message the original poster to discuss in further detail. Thank you!

URGENT MUTUAL AID - $30/150

Hello all! It's your friendly neighborhood mod Glitch, and I am in need of some help.

I am a trans nonbinary disabled neurodivergent individual (ME/CFS) who is unable to work and I haven't been able to get disability.

I've been trying to get help for a few days now without any luck. Please read below why this is so urgent for me:

Have a sudden change of plans since I will be moving back into my apartment next week now that the remodel is finished.

We do have a heat wave coming this week, so I could use some help with groceries so I can get some cold food/shelf stable food to get through the week, cat food/cat litter, and some personal care/hygiene items. Any help is appreciated.

theguardian.com/commentisfree/. Frances Ryan is spot-on here. "It is time this country focused not just on #disabled people’s right to survive, but on their right to live. Rather than talking about cutting #benefit rates, let’s explore raising them to a level where they actually cover the growing extra costs of #disability. Instead of calling disabled jobseekers lazy, let’s discuss the real causes of disability #unemployment: biased employers & a lack of practical support & funding in the workplace."

The Guardian · Disabled people want to live a full life. Instead, we’re forced to scrap over our right to food and a washBy Frances Ryan

Disabled and neurodivergent lives are valid and sacred and we won't be ashamed and our value isn't about productivity or extraordinary savant skills or teaching you gratitude that you aren't like us - our value is. Just is.

It's our little silly revolution, but you don't expect how serious we are about it.

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee: UWM professors are reimagining digital libraries for the visually impaired . “The problem is that most online platforms emphasize visuals, giving little consideration to the needs and primary senses of visually impaired users. Frances Ryan is right:

'It is time [we] focused not just on disabled people’s right to survive, but on their right to live. Rather than talking about cutting benefit rates, let’s explore raising them to a level where they actually cover the growing extra costs of disability.... real progress won’t come from non-disabled people caring about disability rights because it might one day affect them; it will come from caring that it already affects someone else'!
