Fertility rates are falling across the world. This article associates it with access to the internet for women.
But... factors can track each other not because one is causal of the other but because they are both products of another cause - or just randomly, especially as 'tracking' is so broadly defined.
Some observations:
People are being encouraged (or forced) to work/travel for long hours
Parenting has become so intense - parents compete to ensure their child can compete against the children of others (fewer children is both a cause AND a consequence of this)
Parenting is increasingly judged & policed (via social media)
As people spend longer studying & live longer, living as & identifying as an adult are increasingly delayed
There are ways to not have children that are safe & accessible
There are lots of other things for people to do
People are becoming less fertile & less sexually active
Family & community coherence is being lost.
