Rights group says at least 45 people arrested as people demonstrate against coordinated raids throughout the city

by Gabrielle Canon
Fri 6 Jun 2025

"The Department of Homeland Security conducted raids on multiple locations across Los Angeles on Friday, clashing with the crowds of people who gathered to protest.

"Masked agents were recorded pulling several people out of two LA-area Home Depot stores and the clothing manufacturer Ambient Apparel’s headquarters in LA’s Fashion District. Immigration advocates said the raids also included four other locations, including a doughnut shop.

"There has not yet been confirmation of how many people were taken into custody during the coordinated sweeps.

"At an afternoon press conference, #AngelicaSalas, executive director for the Coalition of Humane #ImmigrantRights, said at least 45 people were arrested without warrants.

" 'Our community is under attack and is being terrorized. These are workers, these are fathers, these are mothers, and this has to stop. Immigration enforcement that is terrorizing our families throughout this country and picking up our people that we love must stop now,' Salas told the crowd.

"The protest only grew as the afternoon wore on. By 6pm local time, hundreds of people assembled around the federal building in downtown Los Angeles, where those taken into custody during the raids are being held.

"Earlier in the day, armed agents clad in heavy protective and tactical gear, including some who wore gas masks, could be seen on video and through aerial footage pushing individuals and trying to corral large groups that congregated to challenge the raids.

"Smoke grenades were reportedly thrown near the crowds and pepper spray was used as the federal officers attempted to clear the area. As the demonstrations continued into the evening, videos showed officers firing less-lethal weapons toward protestors.

"Some people in the crowd attempted to block large #ArmoredTrucks carrying FBI agents as they departed. One person reportedly threw eggs at the vehicles.

"The Los Angeles fire department was called to the scene to administer aid to protesters injured by agents and officers, which included the president of the California branch of the Service Employees International Union (#SEIU), #DavidHuerta. The organization said in statement he was detained and called for his immediate release.

" 'We call for an end to the cruel, destructive, and indiscriminate #ICERaids that are tearing apart our communities, disrupting our economy, and hurting all working people,” Tia Orr, executive director of SEIU California said.

" 'Immigrant workers are essential to our society: feeding our nation, caring for our elders, cleaning our workplaces, and building our homes.' "

Whether you do it legally or illegally the results are still the same arrest. The law does not matter when it comes to profit and punishment. All that matters is the whims of our rich lords.

"After Carmen, a mother of five US citizen daughters, was arrested by plainclothes ICE agents in front of her husband at San Antonio Immigration Court for an immigration hearing, Texas immigrant rights activists sprung into action."

"According to Lincoln-Goldfinch, who represents Carmen’s family in their battle to get their mother back, Carmen is 'doing everything the right way.'"

“'She’s been in this country for years. She’s showing up to court, and she has several avenues for release for staying in this country legally,' Lincoln-Goldfinch addressed the crowd at the press conference. 'And yet last week, ICE set a trap for Carmen and her family.'”

West #Michigan counties refute sanctuary jurisdictions list

by: Josh Sanchez
Posted: May 31, 2025

Excerpt:
"News 8 reached out to DHS to learn what exactly led them to consider #KalamazooCounty as a '#SanctuaryJurisdiction.”

"While a spokesperson did not provide specific reasons, they shared what some of the conditions could be.

" 'Designation of a sanctuary jurisdiction is based on the evaluation of numerous factors, including self-identification as a sanctuary jurisdiction, noncompliance with Federal law enforcement in enforcing immigration laws, restrictions on information sharing, and legal protections for illegal aliens,' the spokesperson said.

They added that the list will be regularly reviewed, updated and can change at any time." (!!!)

Sounds like the Three Stooges are running the country!

"Some communities don’t know why they were included

"Officials in communities spanning from urban to rural and blue to red said the list doesn’t appear to make sense.

"Jim Davel, administrator for Shawano County, Wisconsin, said the inclusion of his community must be a clerical error. Davel voted for Trump as did 67% of Shawano County.

" 'We have no idea how we got on this list whatsoever right at this point,' Davel said. 'I think it was just a big mix up, probably some paperwork or something.'

"Davel thinks the administration may have confused the county’s vote in 2021 to become a 'Second Amendment Sanctuary County' that prohibits gun control measures with it being a safe haven for immigrants. He said the county has approved no immigration sanctuary policies.

"In New Mexico, Otero and Lincoln counties also made the list and also have Second Amendment sanctuary policies."

Some #Colorado counties say they were shocked to be labeled '#SanctuaryJurisdictions

Several Colorado counties are disputing their inclusion on a federal list of so-called sanctuary jurisdictions.

COLORADO, USA — "Local leaders across Colorado are pushing back after the Trump administration published a list labeling dozens of cities and counties as 'sanctuary jurisdictions.'

"The list, released earlier this week by the Department of Homeland Security, included 41 counties and 15 cities in Colorado.

"Among them were communities where leaders have publicly supported President Trump’s immigration policies. Since its release, at least three jurisdictions — Weld County, El Paso County, and the city of Aurora — have successfully lobbied for removal from the list.

" 'There was definitely a mistake made,' Otero County Commissioner Tim Knabenshue said. 'Constituents started calling us and saying, ‘What’s going on? We thought we weren’t a sanctuary county'.'

"The list, titled Sanctuary Jurisdictions Defying Federal Immigration Law, does not have a consistent or legally recognized definition for what constitutes a sanctuary jurisdiction. It is generally associated with local policies that limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Under an executive order signed by President Trump, jurisdictions identified as non-compliant could face cuts to federal funding."

"The sanctuary jurisdictions are listed below. These cities, counties, and states have laws, ordinances, regulations, resolutions, policies, or other practices that obstruct immigration enforcement and shield criminals from ICE — either by refusing to or prohibiting agencies from complying with ICE detainers, imposing unreasonable conditions on detainer acceptance, denying ICE access to interview incarcerated aliens, or otherwise impeding communication or information exchanges between their personnel and federal immigration officers.

"A detainer is the primary tool used by ICE to gain custody of criminal aliens for deportation. It is a notice to another law enforcement agency that ICE intends to assume custody of an alien and includes information on the alien's previous criminal history, immigration violations, and potential threat to public safety or security."

#Protesters honor #veterans, rally for #ImmigrantRights on #MemorialDay in downtown #Boston

The “#RallyForADream” called state and local legislators to action in the fight for statewide immigrant protections.

By Darin Zullo, May 26, 2025

"Hundreds of protesters gathered on the Boston Common Monday to honor veterans and rally for statewide protections for immigrants.

"The Memorial Day Rally for a Dream, organized by #Mass50501, was held on Memorial Day to honor fallen military personnel while supporting the ideals that they died for, organizers said. The group has hosted numerous protests since President Donald Trump’s second term in office began, including the nationwide '#HandsOff!' protest that saw tens of thousands of protesters in Boston alone.

" 'We felt it was really important to do this today,' Rebecca Winter, a spokesperson for Mass 50501, told Boston.com. 'We’re calling this march the Rally for a Dream because we see that the American dream is being desecrated right now with all of the harm being done to immigrants in our state.'

"The rally began at City Hall Plaza, where Kylie Bemis, a Mass #50501Movement member and assistant teaching professor of computer science at Northeastern University, kicked it off with chants like 'show me what democracy looks like' and 'no hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here.' Bemis has been outspoken about the #Trump administration and previously called on Northeastern administrators to do the same.

" 'I’m #NativeAmerican from #ZuniPueblo, and I’m a #transgender woman, so I feel like I was born into this kind of #resistance,' Bemis told Boston.com. 'When I saw that things were swiftly moving towards #authoritarianism, I felt an obligation to do my part, to resist, to speak up, to point out the injustices that other people seemed to be missing.' "

Wells residents split on town's decision to pause agreement with ICE

Brad Rogers,WGME
Thu, May 22nd 2025

WELLS (WGME) -- "This week, the Wells Police Department decided to freeze its partnership with ICE.

"The chief says it's in part because of a bill before the state legislature that would ban local police from working directly with ICE.

"The Wells Police Department is the only known department in Maine to sign a contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, better known as ICE.

"But the police chief says they never intended to arrest immigrants.

" 'I'd like to reiterate that at no point was there ever any intent on doing proactive immigration enforcement,' Wells Police Chief Jo-Ann Putnam said.

"The now-frozen agreement set off alarms among Wells residents and seasonal businesses that rely on young people with visas to fill summer jobs, including those from Central and South America.

"CBS13 spoke with a young Venezuelan woman who is working in Wells on an H-2B visa. She says even though she's here legally, she doesn't like the idea of Wells police working with ICE agents.

"Neither does Judy Pettinga.

"The Wells Beach store owner says all this does is frighten foreign workers who are here legally."

[...]

"A bill in Augusta would ban local law enforcement from working with ICE.

"#ACLU of Maine told the judiciary committee, 'The Trump administration is terrorizing immigrants and those perceived to be immigrants, regardless of their legal status.' "
