BREVITY's Nonfiction BlogRejection Is (Still) Not FeedbackBy Allison K Williams

House Republicans are exhausting all their options and making a last-ditch effort to dismantle Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s probe into hush money allegedly paid by former President Donald Trump to a porn star with whom he allegedly had an affair.

House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim #Jordan (R-OH) announced Wednesday night that he had sent letters to two #former #prosecutors–both of whom resigned from the DA’s office last year after a clash over the direction of the investigation–“demanding” documents and testimony relating to Bragg’s probe into alleged hush money payments the former president organized for adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Jordan sent the letters to Carey #Dunne, former Manhattan Special Assistant District Attorney, and Mark #Pomerantz, former New York County Special Assistant District Attorney, as reports from the courthouse continue to indicate a Trump indictment is likely.

The pair had been leading the criminal investigation into Trump under then-District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.

When #Vance left and #Bragg took office in February of last year, Bragg asked them to stay—but both resigned in protest because Bragg had “indicated to them that he had doubts about moving forward with a case against Mr. Trump,” The New York Times reported at the time.

The investigation was ultimately suspended. Pomerantz then took the extraordinary step of releasing a book last month about the investigation, People vs. Donald Trump: An Inside Account.

In the new letter, Jordan describes the possible indictment of a former president as an “unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority.”

“Your criticisms of Bragg’s investigation were widely reported,” Jordan wrote, and “it now appears that your efforts to shame Bragg have worked as he is reportedly resurrecting a so-called ‘zombie’ case.”

The letter requests the pair testify during a “transcribed #interview about these matters as soon as possible,” along with #submitting other #documents and communications.

It is unclear whether the former prosecutors will agree to testify—though it would appear unlikely.

Speaking to Sean Hannity on Fox News Wednesday night, Jordan said he wanted to know “what changed.”

“The only thing that changes... is that President Trump announces he’s running for president,” Jordan said

Someone needs to tell #tradwives that #capitalism has stolen their bacon. Getting by on one income has been nearly impossible since the 1980s. That's when US wages became decoupled from productivity. Since then worker productivity has increased threefold, while real wages have remained flat. For most people, raising a family now requires two earners. Which ends with the "tradwife" both working, *and* taking care of the kids and the home and doing all the emotional labor for the family.

But the absurdity of modern #antifeminism in a nation that rejected the #era and is clamping down on #abortionrights goes far beyond chores and economics.

It's a slap in the face to all the women who've fought for #equality for the past 50 years, before which, women couldn't even get a credit card. Call these "tradwives" what they really are: #stockholm #stepford wives. These were the #antisuffragettes, and the exact same type of women in the older generation were led by Phyllis Schlafly. She convinced just enough of them that their "status" as housewives was so threatened that they should throw all other women under the bus, to keep women legally unequal to men--a full 100 years after winning suffrage.

Tradwives, unsurprisingly shun "The Feminine Mystique" in favor of "Fascinating Womanhood." Or even worse #christian dominionist tripe about #submitting and #obeying one's husband.

This is bad for men, too. Because the power imbalance of one-sided submission leads to long-term resentment and loss of libido. You can either have a maid, or a partner. After a while, a maid will no longer find their "employer" attractive. And then that sorry-ass dude is either in a sexless marriage or ends up cheating, divorcing, and having to learn to cook and clean and wash clothes on his own again after being accustomed to being "served" like a petty dictator.

But this gets even worse. The tradwife subculture is also a big gateway into far-right #whitesupremacist views. Because of course it is. The further back you look in American history, the whiter the privilege gets.

Why do people keep insisting on recycling the very worst ideas from the past that have already been tried, and failed?

#nostalgia is the wound that will never heal.

This is my Boxer #dog Dougal, chewing so intently on his big slab of moose antler, he hasn't eaten anything else yet and it's after 12 noon. This is a happy day for me, too, because I just got a request to send my #manuscript for "The Nitty Gritty & Other Complications" from a #publisher I had queried. My fingers are crossed for that collection.

@SoniaSulaiman @sffbipoc Not sure I understand... are they asking you to make changes to your #writing that appear racist? Or are they making racist comments? Or are you understanding them to have a racist outlook? If any of those things were happening, for myself, I would opt out. I would likely tell them they'd made me uncomfortable with ... whatever they were doing. #Racism is learned. The only way to unlearn it is to be asked to face it. #writingcommunity #publishing #submitting #submit

There’s something about my energy that attracts as many #Doms as it does #subs. I love it when a #dominant person approaches me about #submitting. It isn’t a power trip, it’s a reassurance that the man I present to the world is as open and free of judgement as I hope he is.

You don’t have to be a sub to be #submissive to me. Roles and labels are meaningless when it comes to meeting our needs. Explore and understand yourself.
