Monal 6.4.12 (Build 1044, PR #1440) released.
- Fixed handling of fromUser and toUser in muc mam queries
- Removed keyboard shortcut for "archive conversation"
- MacOS Menu entires are now translatable

@jakob Ich habe #XMPP mit OMEMO-Verschlüsselung zuerst mit der Android-App Conversations verwendet und erst nachher mit Desktop-Clients wie Gajim synchronisiert. Ich habe aber XMPP aufgegeben und bin auf Matrix umgestiegen, die Clients sind stabiler und bieten mehr Funktionen. Die Schlüsselverwaltung ist intuitiver.
Ich werde mit #xmpp einfach nicht warm...
Hab einem neuen User eine neue Nachricht geschrieben. Zuerst von gajim am Linux-Laptop.
Zwei drei Zeilen unverschlüsselt.
Dann hab ich OMEMO eingeschaltet.
Gajim schreibt mir, dass es nicht verschlüsseln kann, weil der Schlüssel des anderen fehlt... ok... unverschlüsselt weiter.
Der User antwortet mir.
Ich lese in Conversations am Androiden. Antworte... defaultmäßig verschlüsselt.
Schau in Gajim nach und sehe bei meinen eigenen Meldungen
Und so geht es mir mit XMPP seit mittlerweile 2o Jahren.
Und wenn ich es kritisiere erfahre ich bloß: "Du machst das falsch, du nutzt xmpp falsch, das ist doch kein Problem, du musst verstehen dass..., blafoo"
Wenn es das Graffel nicht einmal schafft, zwei eigene Devices am selben Account instantan so zu syncen, dass ich verschlüsselte Nachrichten auf beiden eigenen Geräten lesen kann... dann ist das für die Würscht.
Oder wie mir ein XMPP-Dev einst mal sagte "Verschlüsselung ist sowieso überbewertet"

Well, I think XMPP is great, but posts like that are annoying.
Ever heard of the the following two terms?
- use-case
- threat model
I don't use Signal currently, as it does not fit my use-case.
This might change in the future.
It's like saying "forks are better than spoons", well good luck eating soup with your fork!

E.g., according to some researches of censorship (sorry, can't provide the link because of our "laws"):
- The outgoing stream was analyzed for the two "stream" or "strea" and for "xmlns" substrings. If they are all exists — the DPI sends RST packet to the server in the middle of your connection.
- For now they also relies on the starttls.
- The #conversations IM banned completely by domain name, bc they don't want to identify Russian users by the phone number

@duncan_bayne I'm thinking about the time, necessary for govts to come for #Fediverse , #Gemini / #Gopher , #XMPP servers and so on with full scale state power and violence 
Don't know how much peaceful time we have…
E.g. in Russia XMPP server, I use, already blocked, bc state can't break encryption and sniff in the person's messages. #Mastodon instance, I use, blocked too, bc state can't use force to disallow people writing about things it doesn't like…

The @gajim XMPP chat application has modernized quite a bit and evolved a lot compared to when I last used it 15 years ago!

Vielleicht will oder muß man aber auch einen #EU-Dienst einsetzen? Dann fiele Threema als #CH-Firma durch.

Dann fällt Threema auch durch. Nur Teile der Software sind #freeSoftware, insbesondere der Server nicht!
