Searching for @followbot at my Profile Seach, I get:

"Followbot

@followbot

Automated

Personal note
This bot is used to improve federation of my instance.

Feel free to follow back, I won't post anything.

I should be respecting #nobot if it's in your bio."

If this concerns you, #Mute and #Block

Personally I have no interests in building a bot's (and its owner's) Following account stats

Why can't the owner just Follow profiles organically like every one else?

This is better than how the "proxy account" in #Misskey / #Sharkey does its #followbot thing actually, which AFAIK doesn't discriminate on who to follow as long as someone in the instance has added them to the list (even if a local user is already following them, and I thought the follow bot will not bother following in that case but I guess I'm wrong)

I think our -key follow bots can learn a thing or two from
#Awakari. :seija_coffee:

GitHubproxy account following accounts needlessly · Issue #7966 · misskey-dev/misskey💡 Summary The proxy account seems to be following anyone who gets added to a list, even if those people are already being followed by other users on that instance. (in addition, there doesn't seem ...

Yet another new #ActivityPub implementation harassed out of the #fediverse because of privacy-freaks mistaking an AP first-class citizen for a "scraper". I guess fedi has not learned from the #ContentNation incident at all. Or maybe they don't really care, because it's not the "normal social media way", whatever the fuck that means. :ablobcateyeroll:

If these privacy-freaks are really serious about their "opt-in" they would've already suspended all instances of
#Misskey, #Sharkey, and every other -key fork (I think #Iceshrimp, #Catodon, and #Firefish still has it but please correct me if I'm wrong) that has the "proxy account" feature (you can see this with @ghost@misskey.io for example). Because it is fundamentally the same damn thing as #Awakari's AP implementation does. They're both a kind of #followbot which will only follow you if someone from that instance or service needs a feed of your posts and nobody else has requested for a feed before.

But they won't suspend them because they're "mainstream" and "do it the normal social media way". Because of course, the fediverse is all about social media and microblogs, and if I don't understand how this new implementation works it must be dangerous! And Russian!!

Don't like follow bots? Fine, block them, announce if you feel like it and if nobody else who you can boost has done it yet. But don't mislead
#fediadmins by saying it is a "scraper" and it "violates the GDPR" and all kinds of psuedolegal bullshit. You're just showing your ignorance. And don't be a fucking cop by reporting them to their ISP because that just makes you an asshole. :reimu_sigh:

MastodonAndrei Kurilov (@akurilov@mastodon.social)@mirabilos@toot.mirbsd.org @EveHasWords@octodon.social removed everything was coming from Mastodon live feed stopped consuming it anymore sorry for inconvenience

Hey #fediverse, does anyone know if a.gup.pe and chirp.social has some sort of #API which lists all groups in it? I've just thought of an idea to make this #GoToSocial instance I manage federate even more instances than just 600+ servers, which is to #massfollow them all with a #followbot. Yeah it's a really bad thing to use against normal instances (it's gonna annoy humans behind the accounts), but it shouldn't be a problem if I just follow group accounts, right? :sagume_think:

I'm gonna also try mass following every community in
#Lemmy and #kbin as well.

Thanks!
