We need a free/libre fork of #Android for the public commons. Google cannot be trusted.

Maybe that could be #lineageos or #Graphene, but given that they build on top of Android rather than driving the core development, I'm not certain they would be enough as it stands.

Oh excellent — the latest #Graphene update enables the #Linux Development Environment that just got included in the latest Android 15 builds for Pixel devices and will be launching more widely with #Android 16.

It's a full virtualised Debian environment running on your phone. I haven't played with it yet but apparently it can run desktop apps.

edit: it doesn't work yet :(

Electrons became fractions of themselves upon applying a current to a new device composed of rhombohedral pentalayer #graphene and hexagonal boron nitride.

This is important because this "fractional quantum Hall effect" has only been seen in a few systems, usually under very high magnetic fields. The Ju work showed that the phenomenon could occur in a fairly simple material without a magnetic field.

Bereits seit Oktober 2024 liefert #Google für #Android 9+ eine Komponente namens "Android System #SafetyCore" aus, die wohl mittels KI u.a. Spam und Nacktbilder in Messages erkennen kann, deinstalliert werden kann, aber nach Berichten teils auch wieder installiert wird.

Datenflüsse nach außen sind bislang weder für die Komponente noch für das verwendete (und lokale) KI-Modell bekannt.

#Graphene-Nutzende bekommen den Kram nicht.

This is one reason why my #deGoogle path will end with not having a smartphone of any kind.

I’ll have a voip soft phone on my computer and that’s it.

I’ll probably keep an old phone around, turned off, never updating, no sim, just for emergency services (if needed).

I’m going to skip the #graphene step altogether and just go without.

I still have an old garmin GPS I can use in the car if needed.
