Here's an updated picture of my Commodore VIC-20 running my bulletin board system (DeepSkies BBS).

In the back of the VIC is a VIC-1011A RS-232 card that connects the VIC via a null modem cable to a Mac mini that's in behind the VIC (on the right). The Mac is running tcpser that connects the VIC to the Internet.

There's also an SD2IEC drive plugged into the datasette port with a 32GB micro SD card in it that holds all the files for the BBS.

In the cartridge port is a VIC-2407 cartridge that supplies the VIC with 35KB of RAM expansion and a real time clock chip. The VIC also has a JiffyDOS ROM in it, and I added a toggle switch to the back so I can turn it off and use the stock ROM when I want (for compatibility with some stuff).

The VIC-2407 is a bespoke cartridge made for me by JaystoniansRetroShop on Etsy! He is fantastic to work with!

Over to the left, you can see my Ray Carlsen power supply with cold-war spec toggle switch that goes "KA-CHUNK!" when you flip it. It's awesome!

You can fire up your VIC-20 and dial into my BBS 24hrs a day, 7 days a week:

Installed the #C64 Core on the #Mega65 so I can "retire" the real C64C for a while.

Cartridges and hardware IEC devices works on this enhanced Mister core. So it's perfect replacement with this much superior keyboard.

I will still try to use GO64 mode on the "#C65 ROM" on the Mega Core. But with #JiffyDOS on the C64 core together with my #SD2IEC the "C64" feels so very fast.

Never used Jiffy before and it took me by surprise how well it works.

When I got a new #C64 in the early 90s, I missed out on a lot of what you could do with the machine. I used #GEOS a lot - the machine came with 1.5 and later I bought 2.0 - but didn't get into assembly programming or even all the cool cartridges and mods that were available. That said, it wasn't until a few years back that I found out about the awesomeness that's #JiffyDOS. And this week I found out, that you can still buy it. So I did. :)

If you ever asked yourself how the process of #compiling #C #code on a #Commodore64 looks like, here's a short clip I grabbed while compiling a small utility routine.

I'm using #JiffyDOS and a #1541ultimate2plus with two 1541 drives configured. I also ran the same setup with two #SD2IEC devices before and no JiffyDOS which doesn't seem make much of a difference.

And just in case you wonder, this is the #PowerC compiler from Lyon Labs for the C64.

Still, if you are serious about coding on the old #breadbin I'd rather recommend you use #DurexForth or #Assembler ... heh ...
