Dustin Tungilik MacDonald<p>Ha! I just posted a few days ago that I am back with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Wayland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Wayland</span></a> on my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Kubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kubuntu</span></a> #2404 <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/desktop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>desktop</span></a> and things are working, mostly. Well... I am back on <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/X11" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>X11</span></a>. I was on it editing some pictures on <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Digikam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Digikam</span></a> and then the ram and CPU maxed out, I couldn't even get into virtual terminal and had to hard reboot. Plus size is that <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/KDEconnect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KDEconnect</span></a> works. For whatever reason, KDE Connect could not see my phone while on Wayland?!<br>Oh well, I'll leave it for now and give it another try on #2604 haha.</p>

chris actual<p>Back in the day you could order free <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ubuntu</span></a> install/live discs. So I did. This was the first crack in my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/macOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>macOS</span></a> dam. I installed 5.04 on an old underpowered pc. Fast forward a year and I’d be be distro hopping until settling on <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/opensuse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensuse</span></a>. I’ve since come full circle and rock <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/kubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>kubuntu</span></a> as my daily driver.</p>

Guruprasad :kubuntu: :arch:<p><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Firefox</span></a> on a fresh <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Kubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kubuntu</span></a> 25.10 on a fresh install was sluggish and Google Meet was choppy and glitchy. Then I found that the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/snap" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>snap</span></a> has a known, months-old bug preventing the GPU from being visible inside the snap confinement due to it using the core22 base. The workarounds on the Internet and bug trackers mention installing the core24 version of the snap from a candidate channel but that is outdated. So I switched to the edge channel with the nightly and things work okay now. 😔😒🤷‍♂️</p>

I have returned to the #Wayland session on my #Kubuntu #2404 desktop. I haven't been using the desktop that heavily or much since then, been on a trip most of that time. It is working smoothly. I do notice some software chews up a lot of CPU and ram if left open - something I did not have an issue with #X11, but I am sure that will be ironed out with more time.

I hate #snap. I think snap is the worst bit of technology ever created and the fact that #Ubuntu and #Canonical shoves it down your throats is even worse!

So I asked
#GoogleGemini how to completely expunge snap from my system (#kUbuntu) and well... its #suggestions and #steps were right on the money. Sharing the conversation if anyone else is interested in #purging snap from their systems as well:

https://g.co/gemini/share/69ad343856d8

This was a win.
