@benjamin
Bref, ton idée me semble bonne, je me suis abonné à #LinuxLaptop 😉

Project "Retro Revival" complete! 🎉 My beloved ThinkPad X201 just got a major upgrade to Elementary OS 8.0.1 Circe. It's truly amazing how this lightweight and elegant OS transforms older hardware. The X201 is now faster, more secure, and ready for another decade of service!

What's your favorite classic laptop to bring back to life? Let me know in the comments!

- Slimbook Elemental i5-1334 (599 EURO)(Spanje)
- TUXEDO Aura 14 - Gen3 i5-1235 (792 EURO)(Duitsland)
- Linuxlaptop(.be) i3-1315 (749 EURO)(Belgie)

Ik vraag mij af of er in Nederland nog andere alternatieven te koop zijn?

I recently installed #ArchLinux with #KDEPlasma on an old #LenovoYoga720 for my wife and I’m absolutely blown away. This machine, which was crawling under #Windows10, now feels incredibly fast, fluid, and modern.

Boot times are nearly instant, programms open without delay, and the entire system feels lightweight yet powerful. #KDEPlasma brings a sleek, customizable interface that runs like a dream. It’s like this laptop got a whole new lease on life, seriously, it feels like it’s performing ten times better than before.

If you’ve got an old laptop lying around, don’t toss it, revive it with #GNULinux!

Who says old tech can't keep up? My #ThinkPadX250 is getting a serious power-up in 2025 with a full install of #Netrunner25 "Shockworm"! You won't believe how snappy it is.

@samuelsantaella @itsfoss I agree - that is the only real reason. #YotLD is not about anything technical, nor about market share! The true practical definition of #YotLD is when people can simply walk in to physical stores. and buy affordable laptops with #LinuxPreinstalled.

Remember, most people don't install Windows or macOS on their computers. In fact, they have no concept of an operating system - it's just a computer. They are only concerned with using the apps!

So, the main problem with this particular device is the poor PCI connection between the WiFi controller and PCI bridge, which generates a lot of kernel messaging and filling up the systemd journal. The Atheros 10k WiFi adapter is soldered onto the mainboard, so there's no way to fix it. WiFi works up to 200Mbps. These errors also don't let it sleep, but they can be masked in Linux.

Also, there's no detectable event in Linux when it goes into the tablet mode.

Also, quite poor charging performance: when turned on with full screen brightness, the battery gets barely enough energy to charge.

Overall, not recommended.

Thinking of getting a refurbished Dell or Lenovo laptop to run linux on. Mostly to organise and process photos, but also some light CAD. I'll probably look for a laptop with 32gb ram.

The question is how much I should consider processor generation? Should I avoid laptops that are older than 11th gen intel processors?
Gen 9 and 10 are considerably cheaper, but I would like the computer to last a couple of years.

We're exploring ideas and would love your input!

Our current StarFighter laptop (Intel 285H, 64GB RAM, 4K 16" screen) comes in at around £1700 ex VAT.

We're thinking about offering a lower-spec model as well - less memory, a slightly slower processor and a lower-resolution screen - with a price point of around £1200 ex VAT.

Would that be of interest to you?

If, like me, you have been struggling to enable hibernation on your #TuxedoOS machine after the latest major update, this answer on AskUbuntu will be very useful to you : askubuntu.com/a/1536224.

Basically, Ubuntu 24.04 needs a different Polkit configuration in order for #kde to show the relevant button in the launcher.

Everything else is the same as described here reddit.com/r/tuxedocomputers/c

Ask UbuntuHibernate from command line works, but not from menuI have recently installed Lubuntu 24.04 on an old Dell laptop (it was previously running Windows 7!). I have followed instructions to enable hibernate, and sudo systemctl hibernate works just fine...

Well, the issue was that I had a bad disk partitioning. I deleted all the partitions with #Gparted and it was smooth sailing. I decided not to use LVM because the SSD is relatively small (240GB) and I don't plan to move or resize partitions, but maybe I should reconsider because of snapshots.

Anyway, I'll be checking how it works and will post if I decide to reinstall again 😅.
