I'm trying out #NiNoKuni because someone told me that it's like Legend of Zelda, but so far it's over an hour of cut scenes and reading... Is there an actual game in here somewhere or is it all the most boring studio Ghibli movie with a lot of A-button mashing? 😑 (not a serious question, I'm just venting)

If I wanted to read, but play, I'd just read a book... (or play a Persona game) 😩

Since Halloween is fast approaching, I thought I'd share something spooky for this #VGMWednesday: the Tombstone Trail theme from #NiNoKuni.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a better version of it, but I can remember Tombstone Trail was one of my very favorite parts of the game, and the #soundtrack really stuck with me since it sets the mood perfectly.

I feel the Ni No Kuni (Two Countries) series, particularly Revenant Kingdom, are horribly under-appreciated. Beautiful animated artwork and music by Studio Ghibli and solid RPG gameplay by Level-5.

I played both mainline releases before, Wrath of the White Witch on Switch and Revenant Kingdom on PC via Steam. Seeing a new physical copy of the latter for only $28 I couldn't resist. It's just as good on the Switch, though a tad laggy when exploring in the World Map view.

For tonight's Quarantine Control on @damagecontrolblog I wrote about the 2009 Watchmen movie. I enjoyed it! @Dio_Senrab wrote about Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and CWTyger wrote about both Ni No Kuni games and the animated movie. Check our work out!

For people wondering how this is going, I’ve signed a contract to be magician with a random book I found in my fireplace, and now I’m being lectured about being anxious by a long nosed fairy who has been nothing but rude to me.

Soooo pretty good! The switch graphics are beautiful.

Although I battled through the very start of this game (ニの国 Ni no Kuni) on my old DS before, so I’m riding a bit on old knowledge. The real test comes soon… #ninokuni

@Arne_Brand It’s “Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch” — Oliver, a little boy has lost his mother. His stuffed toy reveals itself as a fairy from a parallel fantasy world, where everyone’s doppelgänger exists. Oliver must save both worlds from evil and find his mom’s doppelgänger. It’s an action RPG with animations by Studio Ghibli, the music is played by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. Beautiful game, perfect to relax and completely empty my brain from opera!

Today I continued my playthrough of #NiNoKuni, and the more I play, the more mixed my feelings are about the game. The art style is gorgeous, and the plot is fun, silly at times, and engaging overall.

But the combat feels like a hot mess, and the familiars seems like a half-assed attempt at imitating some Pokémon-like capture mechanic. This makes all the combat sections feel dull and tedious which, given it's a central element to the game, sometimes makes progressing feel like a chore.
