I was fascinated by the original Dragon’s Lair #Laserdisc #game, but I was never very good at it, and I suspect it was because the controller on the arcade console I frequented was not working right. It was exceedingly difficult to time the inputs to the “beep”.

Anyway, here’s a playthrough of the game—note how many scenes are repeated, and how some are literally mirror images of each other.

In addition to this playthrough, there are also just as many minutes of “death” animations, which were pretty entertaining (and frustrating).

As to the release date, this is wrong not because there wasn't a reported "release date"... It's because there were two, and neither were the 19th.

In the same issue of Replay, July 1983, two separate days for the "first" Dragon's Lair units are discussed, the 27th and 14th.

Reading carefully, you can see there's a difference in the circumstances, which calls into question what qualifies as a "release day" when it's not a retail product.

Either way, both these Dragon's Lair facts are wrong.

Keep an eye out for some REAL historical insight on the Dragon's Lair phenomenon in my upcoming book. #videogamehistory #dragonslair
