Die Institutionalisierung künstlerischer Forschung in Form von PhD-Programmen wirft grundlegende Fragen zu Positionalität, Wissensformen und Autor*innenschaft auf. Forschung entsteht in sozialen Netzwerken, durch affektive Verbindungen und geteilte Reflexionen. In Zeiten neoliberaler Marktlogiken ist es entscheidend, Autor*innenschaft neu zu denken – weg von Individualisierung und Konkurrenz, hin zu kollektiven Prozessen. Wie können künstlerische Werke als Ergebnis kollektiver Intelligenz verstanden und repräsentiert werden? Welche politischen oder sozialen Impulse lassen sich daraus ableiten?
Die Künstlerin und Forscherin Naomi Hennig, die sich in ihrer Arbeit mit extraktivistischer Landwirtschaft in Argentinien beschäftigt und die Videokünstlerin und Forscherin Yara Haskiel, deren Arbeit sich mit multiperspektivischer Erinnerung in Griechenland auseinandersetzt, diskutieren diese Herausforderungen an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Theorie und Aktivismus entlang eigener Filmausschnitte. Beide Promotionen sind oder waren am PhD Research Programm des Department of Visual Cultures am Goldsmiths London verortet. Es wird die enge Verflechtung von Forschung, Verantwortung und Repräsentationsethik sichtbar gemacht und zur gemeinsamen Reflexion eingeladen.

At the Science Slam Mainz in January, I had the pleasure to present aspects of my PhD research on how gestural abstract painting and its painterly production was gendered in the 1950s. I took the chance to do a live painting within the 10 minute time frame of the slam. Science in the humanities is not all words and speech. It is acting, performing, and agency too.

ON GROWTH AND FORM - un thème de travail depuis 2020.
Seule dans mon atelier à Paris au cité internatational des arts pendant couvre-feu et confinement, j'ai commencé à jouer avec les encres en réfléchissant à la biodiversité et à la morphogenèse ...
Un processus de recherche jouissif et le début de nouvelles séries.
Avec mes séries sur le thème ON GROWTH AND FORM, j'explore l'unicité (Einzigartigkeit) et les points communs des formes bio-inspirées à travers le processus de peinture lui-même, en utilisant différentes encres et matériaux de peinture à base d'eau sur papier humide.
La série reflète aussi mon intérêt pour les components visuelles ou sensorielles des processus de recherche ainsi que pour l'histoire des sciences naturelles. Le titre fait référence au livre du même nom « ON GROWTH AND FORM » du biologiste mathématicien D'Arcy Wentworth Thompson (1860-1948), et la recherche sur les propriétés physiques des matériaux de peinture renvoie à « Der Bildunsgtrieb der Stoffe » de Friedlieb Ferdinand Runge.
L'ensemble de la perception esthétique se réfère à des illustrations scientifiques et le format de papier au rapport 4:3 se réfère à des formats courants de la photographie analogique.
Au cours de l'hiver 2020/2021, j'ai réalisé de nombreuses esquisses et achevé deux grandes séries : ON GROWTH AND FORM - CNIDARIA (titre provisoire) composée d'une centaine de feuilles et ON GROWTH AND FORM - FOREST (titre provisoire) d'environ 300 feuilles au format 24 x 18 cm.

Trialing cyanotype printing on these. This is my second attempt and the paper didn't completely dissolve this time which is nice, but still is very delicate which will hopefully be alleviated by using different fibers. The paper also soaks up a bit to much of the chemicals which I think is the reason for some of the print unevenness. #papermaking #cyanotype #craft #ArtisticResearch
