#Micenas #Mycenae
I’m the kind of #translator who will find, open, and search seven public-domain translations of the #Iliad just to see how I might best translate that three-word description of the ancient city of #Mycenae from French into English.
This is why I get paid the big bucks. </sarcasm>
The corbelled ceiling of the Treasury of Atreus at #Mycenae, the largest known tholos tomb in Greece. It's over 3200 years old. Despite the name, it was indeed a tomb, not a treasury.

Looooong day - day trip. Cute guide. Much information about the history of #Greece. Isthmus of #Corinth, archaeological park of #Mycenae, coastal city of #Nafplio, ancient #Epidaurus. Great, we got everywhere much time to explore
The Mycenaean civilization flourished in the late Bronze Age from the 15th to the 13th century BCE, and their artists would continue the traditions passed on to them from Minoan Crete. Pottery, frescoes, and goldwork skillfully depicted scenes from nature, religion, hunting, and war. Developing new forms and styles, Mycenaean art would prove to be more ambitious in scale and range of materials ...https://www.worldhistory.org/Mycenaean_Art/ #Art #Mycenae #MycenaeanArt #History

Got a bit more done on my primative pottery stirrup jar. Red oxide paint has been burnished and is ready for the next firing.

New year, new project.
Trying to make a 1400BCE Mycenaean inspired stirrup bowl. Using a squat version in the Walters Art Museum as my inspiration.
Hollow form from to slabs bowls and a bunch of paddling to make a pleasing shape. Letting it get a bit firmer before I do any more work.

We don’t know much about Mycenaean #astronomy but there are indications that the #Pleiades were important for seafaring and they adopted the #Mesopotamian important agricultural constellations of #Aquarius for the rainy season and Field/Furrow (#Virgo ) for sowing & reaping
